i guess you didnt read the previous article about the Norway prisons and why they give those luxuries. Prisons are not just meant for punitive deterrance but also for correction so that the inmate be a good citizen to be assimilated in the society.
In Norway the crimes are miniscule, wonder what is the crime rate in these countries with the notorious prisons. I guess they serve as breeding ground for more crimes.
What is required is not inhuman punishment but more conviction rate so that every one fears being caught for any crime.
This is the so called Western Democracies open society and refined way of living and delivering justice.
US Supreme Court has approved Water boarding torture which is regarded as the most horrible torture ever invented by man.
The crimes in the Middle East are the least than in any part of the world.
The punishment was meted out in the public and the punishment was swift and the objective of punishment of even the English jurisprudence is to stop others into indulging in crime. Unless the punishment is metedout in public how can you stop others from indulging into crime? By the time they resort to crime and end up in thes hells the damage is already done.
In the middle east lashes and beheading may look barbarous to the naked eye but they are the lesser painful ones than these so called civilised western justice delivernce mechanisms.
Even after all these barbaric treatments in these hells the crime rate is high in teh west and new and newer varieties of crime cropping up like Paedophilia etc.

If you can make all kinds in India reported you eyes will open and you will find that western countries like US and middle eastern countries like Saudi, riad, Dubia has lowest crime.
Most of the crimes in India like rape are not even register.....only 3 out of 10 rapes are rejister in India.
In dubia or Saudi you can leave you bag in a fast food reastaurant or a railway station, come back after an hour and your bag will be still there........you know why, because if they caught you ( and they will as almost whole city is covered with cctv cameras) they will simply cut your fingures or hand depending upon the circumtances.

oh oh...which jail allows you to roam freely and stop trains, throw stones at public buildings, shout slogans and above all elect a leader who barely represent you?
come on, we are poor and we have big problems in social justice, but should never denounce our hard won freedom. if you are not availing the freedom that is your problem not the country's and nothing can be better than the jails you opt.
even after all the goodies the emergency brought i never heard any one really praising it. just an example how much freedom matters.
