Anna on wrong track
by Devinder Singh on May 04, 2011 09:21 PM

The question of greed cannot be tackled by enacting laws. Anna Hazare was at the forefront of, and largely instrumental in, the enactment of the Right to Information Act that was supposed to be curative. He discovered that even after information is wrested from the state, it is difficult to bring the corrupt to book. He then enlarged his agitation to a new frontier, the enactment of a powerful Lokpal Bill, to which he wants to give teeth by including civil society in its drafting. Corruption was there in the times of the British, when viceroys were not immune from it. They retired with huge hoards. And even earlier, Chanakya (in 4th century BC) refers in his "Artha-Shastra" to the wealth that sticks to the fingers of the revenue collectors. Anna Hazare will soon have to enlarge his effort to yet another frontier in his bid to deal with it. Greed has to be dealt at its root, in human nature. It requires self-culture. Religion was supposed to deal with it, but failed. So will Anna.

Don't purchase the books by Arundathi
by James on May 02, 2011 09:43 AM

Instead of rebuking arundathi on Discussion board, the best way to retaliate against people like this is to stop purchasing the literature they produce and also discourage others from purchasing the same.

Who the hell is Arundhati Roy.... Freedom of speech in a democracy doesn't mean that she can spill out s*it whenever she wants to....This lady even said that Kashmir is not a part mof India... Being a kashmiri pundit I pray to god that she doesn't even come in front of me... A perfect example of jack of all trades and master of none... should be kicked out of this country along with her meaningless booker prize...

The corruption has increased...
by guy giggling on May 02, 2011 08:45 AM

The corruption has increased in spite of privatization because the licensing powers are still vested with the government. The decrease in corruption is felt everywhere. Earlier, when we got a telephone connection, the divisional engineer demanded Rs 500 to give me the connection, the line men demanded Rs. 200 each. Now, I can just buy any one of the several telephone companies and just get a connection for Rs. 200. No corruption no hassles. Yeah! we face hassles whenever the government wants a proof of address. We have to pay the MRO 500 rupees to get a proof of residence, birth certificate Rs. 500. As for electric connections, the less said the better.
And these commies want us to believe public sector doesn't foster corruption. Funny.

hmmm
by Wanderlust on May 02, 2011 07:03 AM

this lady badly needs attention. most of the intellectuals who feel bad for others feel so because they implicitly believe that they are privileged.

these people can only do harm to society as most of the time they show sympathy when it should be strict compassion ....there is a difference and these chickenheads don't know the difference.

Arundhati Roy is a spy and a
by Rasheed Ahmed on May 02, 2011 06:56 AM

Arundhati is a biggest hypocrite India ever had. She was actually a social spy. Given the bhooker prize and then glorified by paid and also ignorant Indian media and then invited by very religious fake organisation in USA,Germany etc...where in she regularly hit Inndian socities, especially the hindustva people and sometimes muslim groups also. Her knowledge is too shallow, follows vatican line and is not over-confident due to the support of Congress govt. some Indian circles and catholic circles with huge political clout in the western world.

I request rediff to ignor this lady.

to each, his/her own method. Anna chose his effectively as a means of protest. and people liked it.

if the so called intellectuals knew the systemic disease all the while long, they didn't do a thing to stop people's money being taken out of the country. they didn't make even one politician thief to go behind bars.

so who needs them??? Yes, the Vodka flowing pseudo-leftist parties held in comfy living rooms can have these kinds for guests.

If Anna said something about Narendra Modi (the ostracized, for his alleged inactivity during riots), then how come Sonia Gandhi turns out to be a great soul to this intellectual? Doesn't Sikh blood, Emergency terrorism hound her family too?
