In the history of nuke power reactors there is a series of accidents on record. But out of them two incidents are major - Chernobyl and Fukushima. Both have reached the maximum scale 7 of INRES ( International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale ). And the radiation does not care for international boundries, it has no barriers. And the half cycle of radioactive particles is tens thousands of years. For Chernobyl only 25 years passed, so calculate how much time is left ! No doubt we need power. But in case of nuclear power the cost is so exorbitant! To cool down and have a safe closer for fukushima it may require minimum ten to 15 years and the cost will be more than billion dollor as in the case of Chernobyl. This the additional cost alongwith the recurring cost. The additional cost will have to pay after accident when the reactor will not provide power, only will demand cost so the radiation may not leak of atmosphere. So are we ready to get the services of nuclear power. The inherent dangers in nuclear power are many times high as compared to the services rendered. So should we not learn lesson?

Dear we are not living in stone-age. I am strongly disagree with you, We are hindus and we all know how to tackle the situation. Muslims ruled over us 850years and firangi 150years but we remain what we are. English literacy is choice of today its ok but raising it to 30percent really not a good idea. Your suggestion for changing names only reflect how you kept a society. Reservation mean only to give the poor one their part of life with easy way.Criminals are well handled by our police and court. Sex-determination only beneficial for doctors they will make money by giving wrong reports. We hindus always respect all religion and newer bond anyone to come to temple we all know there are many hindus who pray in mosque ans as well as in church. Specially for India Christian missionaries should be banned
I have ain idea to dispose off waste from India. Collect all the wasted gathered over a period of one month fro the entire country and then send it to the moon and dump it there. We can do this on a monthly basis..the costs required for this will be from the black money stored in the country. We can have a clean India in both ways.
well to b frank i think tht nuclear power is a great option(coz the nucleas in the atom hv tremendous enrgies in them, tht can meet our energy demands)but right now the reactors are quite unsafe(the plant which is planned to get opreted in jaitapur is surely unsafe),and it is a technology which is still not very much developed so i think it is the best option to do some more work on it,to propose some better designs and also to develop some high quality control systems and then there is no harm in pondering over this option

Rediff, it is obvious that this is a paid News! Look at the Nuclear plans of the so called 15 countries(out of 221) which are currently using Nuclear Energy, they all have plans to move away.
They want Banana Republics like India with corrupt politicians to keep them Rich
Over the years, the share of nuclear power has dwindled from 3% to 2% in India. Idle slogans like 10000 MW by the year 2000 have not come to fruition. And early sci-fi predictions like n-power will be too cheap to meter look ridiculous in the present day scenario where it has become apparent that the country cannot sustain its n-program without technology, investments and more importantly uranium supply from outside. Time has thus come to take a serious stock of the situation. Remember, you cannot fool all the people all the time.
Taking safety, economy and other issues like long-term damage to the environment into account, is nuclear power program, in its present form, really viable and beneficial or is it just an attempt by the ignoramus to please powers like the US? Are we heading for another three-mile-island, Chernobyl or Fukushima? Misleading notions like no power is costlier than no-power - promoted by a Mumbai-based English daily and its tabloid have lost all meaning after ENRON. Time will certainly answer these question, but meaningful and intelligent planning requires that these questions be answered NOW.

The latest Nuclear technology used in US , France and India (PHWR) all of them have risks and periodic incidents which are severe. Indian made reactors are in fact more safer (more correctly less unsafe) and use locally developed technology.
However nuclear power is way more risky than any other power source . Recently for example a few days back there was heavy radiation detected in one of the nuclear plants in the US itself where they had to evacuate all the workers in the plant.
Nuclear power needs to be used only as complimentary to safe power generation like Hydroelectric ,Solar and Wind.
