We have to deal China with wisely and strategically. It`s like a fighting between a Lion and Tiger. If they fight with each other, definitely reduced to half and co-operate each other definitely grows to double with fast track and both country`s people will be happy.

India cannot depend on any foreign power to defend itself
by Vishnu Sharma on Apr 06, 2011 10:32 PM  | Hide replies

India needs to shore up its defense capabilities fast and we need to take defense matters very seriously.

We have two sworn enemies on either side of our borders.

We need to have a troop strength of at-least 5 to 10 million among whom 2 million belong to elite combat units.

We need to augment our mountain warfare capabilities and our airforce which will play a crucial role in supporting our operations.

We need to develop adequate missile forces which can be used to disable the enemy at the start of the campaign itself.

Defense is the first and foremost priority of any administration and 5% of our GDP should be allocated towards it.

most of India's defence expenditures will go to foreign weapon manufacturers and foreign kick back accounts of Indian agents... Om Shanti
-----------------

Our military manpower is already too big. We need to shrink the numbers and improve its mobility and make it more equipment savvy. Already govt spends 13 percent of its total budget outlay. It is not feasible to go beyond 15 percent without impacting economic development.

We need to spend lot more on policing, and schooling.

The bane of Indian defence policy has been highlighted by Om Shanti. We need to find an innovative way to ensure our defence expenditure contributes to Indian industrialization and design capabilities.

Since the policy to encourage private participation including Multi nationals has already been enunciated. It would make more sense to bring in the economic security aspect integral to our defence policy by making all defence procurement in INR only. This would mean that defence suppliers who invest to enlarge industrial production base in India and with long term stakes in Indian economy shall be interested in participating in making supplies.

Such a policy decision could not be taken even 10 years ago, it is not clear whether it is feasible even now, in terms of impacting defence preparedness.

The present formula to ensure a percentage of outflow is invested in India is not that successful as it introduces arbitrariness in policy prescription. But it is surely better than having no policy.

What we need is actionable intelligence. We need a positive framework of mind which helps analyse the situation to overcome our shortcomings and is suggestive of solutions.

Your complaint master stance seems more like a disinformation plant by some foreign intelli with intent to create panic, inviting only foiling efforts.

Attitudes make a big difference in reading of the situation and the kind of cooperation we elicit from fellow Indians.

Why Indian defence needs to keep pace with China
by sudarshan Kumar on Apr 06, 2011 10:24 AM

India has to definitely keep pace with China, otherwise there is every scope of repeat of 1962 war. Even now also China is slowly but surely inching into Indian territory but due to our corrupt politicians, this fact is being neglected and this has been the history of India since time immemorial. Even in ancient times, we read that people used to fight against each other and when there was any foreign invasion, they used to get defeated. Today we read the history of mughal invasion followed by Britishers. Now this is Chinese invasion, which our worse-than-third-rated politicians are least bothered about, who are completely engrossed in their own world of looting the country, which is even more dangerous than a Chinese invasion or even Pak fiddling into Indian territory.

Mostly China's defence expenditures will stay inside its own economy because most of its weapons are indigenously built..

Where as most of India's defence expenditures will go to foreign weapon manufacturers and foreign kick back accounts of Indian agents...
