In exchange for what?

Kashmir to Pakistan? That's what US must have demanded under the table as a price for this seat. & our Kangressi asses readily agreed. Why not? As it is, they're used to horse trading, kickbacks, betrayal deaths right from before Independence.

India's permanent UNSC seat is long over-due.But we are only being given lolly-pop,as a non-permanent member.By the way only America should have a veto power and not other 4 countries. There should be only one king in the universe.

nehru placed kashmir as an issue to the UN
nehru went out of his way to promote china as a permanent member of the UN, instead of promoting India

today - we continue to pay for these nehruvian blunders

MKGandhi followed by Nehru harmed this country so much that MKG harmed more than the rest put together while nehru also accomplished the same but excluding MKG.

india never asked for non-parmanent membership, which even BTW, Pakistan enjoys. india should rather reject a non-parmanent memberhsip and lobby for a parmanent membership. if india accepts the non-parmamnet memebership, the UNSC will even stop india's demand of a parmanent membership seriously at least for the moment.

India @ UNSC

The fundamental structure of UNSC is flawed in nature. How can you not have a nation that comprises 1/6th (and growing :-)) of mankind in UNSC? Consider world as a single entity and democracy as governing mechanism, would you not allow 1/6th of your population a right to participate in crucial decision making?
Part of the problem has been India's reluctance to engage world (Western Hemisphere esp.) effectively in first 4 decades of its existence. Berlin Wall going down did a great job for India in shedding-off it's cold war baggage. Another point is, it has now become a cliche that "India is a big country that acts small." Mishandling of Commonwealth Games being a suitable example. India (and Indians) are in the process of learning how to act/react/respond as an International citizen. That's good and will install confidence in the country (and countrymen) as we move forward. We are a late-starter but nevertheless are on a correct path. Let's embrace world and become a true global citizen, be confident, let's invoke "Vasudhev Kutumbakam (world- a family)" and gain our fair place in world. God bless India, God bless mankind.
