Democracy is not for free ride for rich and famous. Democracy is about equal opportunity. If the first kind of democracy prevails then liquor will be manufactured in every home and narcotic drugs will be abused openly on streets. Humans are smarter than any other animal and one of the reason is we look back into the history to guide the future. History has evidence that if a society adapts negative emotions and negative energy into their mainstream culture then the society will collapse to ashes. These shows have extreme negative energy and emotions like jealousy, cheating, backstabbing, lies, playing sexuality, violence, threatening, blackmailing, abusive language, negative human values, etc.
One can advice me to shut the TV off, but my kids go to the same school where the other kids are exposed to the negativity and loss of innocence created by these shows. Even though it's late, the Govt. did the right thing.

An example of the first kind of democracy you talk about is Pakistan.
Great post. You're absolutely right about how values/meanings change slowly and creep into society. It's a free country..yes..but we'd be slowly destroying this freedom if we allow this slow change to creep into society.
I do not understand why the govt. should at all allow these channels and episodes to be telecast. These should be banned for good. For cheap publicity, people can go to a long way.
This is a crap and the very content of the program is quite obscene. The life style that is shown on TV is not at all suitable for our tradition and culture. It is better that Govt interferes and banns all such programs that are based on the Big Boss concept
this is NAinsaaf to Rakhi and millions of her fans. govt. is scared of her increasing popularity.. thinking she could become a threat to their sonia madam in future.. we want Rakhi back in prime time!
