Antony : all that you say is correct, but instances of the high handedness of US security agents is reported from virtually all countries. They are in the chronic habit of misbehaving with the local security apparatus.

You are correct in saying that it is the responsibility of US security agents to ensure the President's security, but one should also bear in mind this country hosts top leaders from Russia, China, Western Europe and many other important countries. There are virtually no other foreign security agencies who misbehave.

During his last visit to Afghanistan, President Obama had called President Karzai for a meeting in the morning at 4 am. The Afghan President was not previously informed of Obama's impending visit. This issue was completely disliked by the Afghans and they have made their displeasure known very publicly. That is no method to treat a President of a fellow country.

Moreover, the demons they fear so much, and who have unleashed such wretched cruelty on our people, are forces which have been unleashed by the Americans themselves.

Nonetheless, despite all this, it is good Obama's visit was eventfree and a major success from our point of view. Alls well that ends well.

Your point of view is correct.

During the current visit, the US President brought his own car along.

Normally when the President of another country addresses our Parliament, he or she is accompanied by our President. The visiting head of state arrives in our own Presidents motorcade but in this case President Patil gave the address a miss because she would then have to come in Obama's car. That breached protocol for which the current address to parliament was sans President Patil.

Obama could have slipped into President Patil's Mercedes for the short journey from Rashtrapati Bhavan, but see their arrogance. He did not do that and had the discourtesy to disallow President Patil to be in the central hall of parliament. The flip side of this is that the ushering ceremony with the Presidential Bodyguards dressed in the military finery is available only when our president is present. In the current address, Obama had to make do with normal personnel of parliament.

Pity
by Tom Jerry on Nov 10, 2010 06:49 PM  | Hide replies

Agreed and very much true we all like to hate our police. The news report says, some foreigners have abused, insulted our fellow countrymen, our police right in our country, but not even a single person here condemns it. Instead, everyone is praising what the US agents did. Don't we have even the very basic, minimal level of self-pride, self-esteem? Even the people of the poorest of poor countries have and display that.

No one sympathises, because the police have earned that reputation. They themselves behave so rudely and high-handedly with ordinary citizens, and now they have got a taste of their own medicine.
