Mr Vijay Malhotra has gone mad. He was in government for long time. He new very well that for politicians there is no upper age limit. Why he did not plead for Govt employees who retire at the age of 58-60.
It is truely said "Power corrupts, absolute powre corrupts absolutely". Binash kale bipareet buddhi.

People gifting owl to their children?
by prem k on Nov 03, 2010 01:46 PM

I thought that the only domesticated bird is parrot and even though human beings love a peacock, you can hardly keep it as a pet.

But who buys owl? I have not seen anyone. And if there are indeed people, there is something wrong with the brains of such people and they should be immediately put into an asylum.

Indian flora and fauna has already suffered a lot in the hands of lunatics and excessive deforestation. For instance, it seems that the whole army of sparrows and mainas are lost or have migrated to some other part of the world. We dont see them these days.

Why?

He is probably right. Stupid people have been paying exorbitant amount for barn owls and Eryx Johnii (two-headed) snakes, and Harry Potter has added to the superstition.

well like we dont have other reasons for species getting extinct than to blame Harry potter. The article itself gives a million reasons for the owls being in danger, and harry potter is the only reason called out ... because no one wants to do anything with the other 'real' causes.
It's like if someone sh1ts on the road, blame the west, since he may have seen it on a western channel.

But for him, business tycoons and stupid politicians would have ruined India's nature. I really liked this guy when he said NO to an irrigation project in Kerala which would have ruined hectares of rich forest. FYI, I'm from KL too.

Sorry, typo.. Not irrigation project, but hydro-electric project near the scenic Athirappilli water falls, the biggest in KL.

Meanwhile, releasing a TRAFFIC India's report entitled "Imperilled Custodians of the Night", a study on illegal trade, trapping and use of owls in India, in New Delhi on Wednesday, Ramesh said that owl is highly endangered species now.

He said that maximum killings of owls take place during Diwali in the name of black magic and sorcery driven by superstition, totems and taboos.

India is natural habitat for about 30 species. There is a great threat to many bird species. Large number of communities in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh are involved in illegal trade of owls which is used for Tantric practices.

Owls play beneficial and vital role in the ecosystem, particularly to farmers through their predation of rodents and other crop pests.

Shaman or black magic practitioners frequently referred to as tantriks in India, prescribe the use of owls and their body parts such as skull, feathers, ear tuffs, claws, heart, liver, kidney, blood, eyes, fat, beak, tears, eggshells, meat and bones for ceremonial pujas and rituals.
