WHY DID THEY RETURNED THE PASSPORT WHEN WE SURRENDERED BEFORE?
by Anwar Ali on May 28, 2010 06:53 AM  | Hide replies

When people applied for PIO and OCI and wanted to surrender the passport the embassy returned back the passoprt. Why are they asking for money now?

The external minstry was caught with Tharoor for staying in 5 star hotel with governments money.

Where will this money go?

Well, that's India. Do NOT be surprised if they embassy staff sit around at the end of the day and pool the collections.

They are giving out ONLY a stamp and a piece of paper, with NO central tracking, for the $175.

Expect INDIANS to make sure that it does not go out of the consulate.

Do you trust the chubby babu in the consulate to honestly send this utterly unaccounted money to INDIA?

Good luck.

Indians are second class citizens no matter where in the world they are, India or US, or even the jungles of the Congo. Live with the fact :) I stayed 7 years abroad and this is what I learned about my "Indianness".

NRI's better spend this money on combating racism and protection of NRI/PIO/OCI community. GOI will not come to help you, and neither will country of adoption.

GOI cannot come to even the protection of its OWN citizens when pakis butcher them. Or its own soldiers when those chotta bangladeshis torture them. So there.

If you guys are praying every day for NRIs to suffer from racism, what a sorry lot you are. Sorry, frustrated, jealous lot.

Call for ex-Citizens to do the right thing.
by yaro oruvan on May 27, 2010 11:36 AM  | Hide replies

Let's do something about it. Let's help Indian companies root out corruption and become more honest.

Right. ex-Citizens, please report every fake-indian-resume, working on visitor visa, Labor violations, TCS/INfosys/Wipro etc. Call Department of labor on these guys.

As US citizens it is your duty to report violations of US law.

Asa moral duty of an ex-Indian citizen, Let's try to clean up India and teach INfosys/TCS/Wipro etc the value of honesty.

That will also help convince Indians that ex-citizens too are interested in the overall improvement of INdia.

Right? Let's get started from tomorrow. Chat with the TCS guy, find out some details, and call Dept of Labor on him and TCS/Infosys. Call INS too if he/she is on B1/B2 and is working at a client office.

Great Idea- I am planning to talk to my local congressman/senator about introducing bill which will increase the taxes on HI worked and will limit the H-1 workers visa period. Second is to stop remitting money to Indian operated Charities. Third is to withdraw all funds deposited in Indian Banks and Fourth is to sell all real estate holdings in India. Crash the rupee to Rs 100 to the dollar and then GOI will come to you with soup bowl in hand.

Shame on India
by Suresh kampalli on May 27, 2010 07:48 AM | Hide message
I want to see the Indian Prime minister to come and beg for money with his arms stretched out like they do in India. India has given very little to its citizens and those who come out it gets robbed like this. This is shame on India, but I guess Indians are like that. Culture less rogues. Pathetic country. India has money to spend on lazy worthless illiterate minorities but not on those that are educated, worthy and intelligent, those who can make India better place to live. India will go to hell, but I guess it's already there. Nothing to be proud of India. NONE.

Rest of what you said is more or less agreeable to me.

This bunch of oldies are selfish and hypocrites. They have left INDIA long back and they are pretty sure of not returning back to INDIA. This people are in US to make money and lead a comfortable life, they never ever bother about INDIA. Now they are making huge noise because they have to pay few dollars to INDIAN Govn.
Mallu Uncle leader of this pack is a typical 3rd rate politician, his accent sucks!
One Aunty is holding a placard which has mis-spelled INDIA as INIDIA, no wonders these people have forgoten to spell INDIA correctly.
These people should be stripped of INDIAN citizenship and there INDIAN passports should be confiscated.

This is not about money. It's about retroactive application of new rules causing impractical bureaucratic problems and harassment. These rules did not exist before due to GOI ignorance and neglect. How can you find your old Indian passport if you already surrendered it decades ago? With this much harassment and psychological blackmail, you will even forget to spell your own name, let alone names of countries.

Most people took up citizenship in other countries so that they could sponsor siblings/children/parents/inlaws etc. Multiple effect was huge and remittance to India was in billions. Why penalize people who took citizenship in order to help other Indian citizens.

Good point. In fact i wouldn't paying to GOI, but I only object that they give too much hassle in form of unfriendly paper work. If information they want, it can be done in friendly way too. Money is easy to give, but how to go through hassle of this notary and that notary, etc for documents many years old?

I mean: I wouldn't mind paying to GOI, if only paperwork was made easier.
