There is a credible report on how plant are aging much, much faster than they used to, due to increased carbon dioxide, which is speeding up their growing process.

No one knows its long-term ecological impact, but what we do know is that plants are our only sure-shot method of getting rid of carbon dioxide.

what article ??
by Mr Walker on May 17, 2010 03:52 PM

This article is a perfect example of how science terminology can be used to mislead people.

Plant not just have a cooling effect they also produce oxygen during photosynthesis which is used by animals like us to survive.

And for this author to understand a few basics the increased CO2 will reduce when we have more plants especially the bigger trees.

If these people cant understand the basics why do they even publish such stuff ?? or is this again some paid propaganda.

Plants and CO2 reduction
by Anumakonda JAGADEESH on May 17, 2010 03:42 PM

Let us understand plants and CO2 mechanism.
In hot and dry conditions, plants will close their stomata to prevent loss of water. Under these conditions, CO2 will decrease, and oxygen gas, produced by the light reactions of photosynthesis, will decrease in the stem, not leaves, causing an increase of photorespiration by the oxygenase activity of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase and decrease in carbon fixation. Some plants have evolved mechanisms to increase the CO2 concentration in the leaves under these conditions.
C4 plants chemically fix carbon dioxide in the cells of the mesophyll by adding it to the three-carbon molecule phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP), a reaction catalyzed by an enzyme called PEP carboxylase and which creates the four-carbon organic acid, oxaloacetic acid. Oxaloacetic acid or malate synthesized by this process is then translocated to specialized bundle sheath cells where the enzyme, rubisco, and other Calvin cycle enzymes are located, and where CO2 released by decarboxylation of the four-carbon acids is then fixed by rubisco activity to the three-carbon sugar 3-phosphoglyceric acids. The physical separation of rubisco from the oxygen-generating light reactions reduces photorespiration and increases CO2 fixation and thus photosynthetic capacity of the leaf. C4 plants can produce more sugar than C3 plants in conditions of high light and temperature. Many important crop plants are C4 plants, such as maize.

The planet will adopt to global warming, and no one really knows what will be the effects of global warming, using computer models is a big mistake. But we know exactly what is happening due to islamic menace. More serious issue to consider.

Mr. Kafir Khan's blog may be out of context, in this issue of global warming, but it is perfectly more relevant in greater global perspective.
Islam born in 1600 years ago, and start fighting fratricidal war from day one. Clashes between Shea ans Sunni still raging on even to day. By the process of such war of attrition, I guess about ten to fifteen million Muslims were perished. Next the advent of Al Qaeda and Taliban, More innocent people were killed. Muslims killing Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus at random on obnoxiously flimsy grounds.
So the Muslim religion is dangerous and threat to Humanity.
On Global warming issue, Muslims are contributing Green house gases in big way. They kill animals specially the Cows, Buffaloes, Camels in such proportion that these animals are in the verge of extinction. They created an offal/caracas- pit in gigantic proportion, and that emitting Green house gases.

Confusing the people !!
by Indian Citizen on May 17, 2010 02:12 PM  | Hide replies

Increased CO2 concentration in a Green house produces more product out of photosynthesis is know and being practiced for growing vegetable crops in a controlled conditions. higher CO2 in the atmosphere should procude more product but due to less sweating and lower opening of pres in leaves, it might show lesser drop in atmospheric temperature.
I am asking one basic question: How many Banyan and pippal trees are around now left which are good humidifiers ?
Pune alone has lost at least few hundred such trees aging between 100 to 200 years old. We see the hot PUNE climate change in just 30 years temperature shooting from 39 maximumm to now 42 deg Cel.
These models should be taken with a pinch of salt only.
Why Krishna compared himself with the above trees ? We have to understand.

Global warming is a very critical issue, if we donot have proper understanding about it we have to be ready to face its consequences. Need more such articles to create awareness.

We need to plant lots of Banyan, pippal, Neem, Jamun, Aam, Palash, ashok and even Babool in deserts. Every body should plant at least 5 trees in his life time. The would you might consume at the time of your death must be produced in advanve then only you lived your life woth living otherwise you just came and gone.
