Padma awards are a disgrace
by Pia Tondon on Apr 08, 2010 03:24 AM

The Padma award is supposed to be a highest civilian award (sacred award), who serves the country with utmost dedication in their choosen fields. Now a days, Every idoit is getting this Padma award, except for few chosen, and deserving. Imagine, Aishwaya Rai, Sania Mirza getting this award. I do'nt mind Saina Nehwal getting it though.

What is the basis for Padma awards?
by rajesh on Apr 04, 2010 06:12 PM

19 yr old saina nehwal got padma shri....65 yr old doctor also gets padma sri...i didn't understand the basis for these awards? Fame? popularity? personal excellence? or social service? Ilayaraja is the most experienced and eminent musician in the country...he was the guru of A.R Rahman.....ARR got so much popularity in short time.....Both ilayaraja and ARR were given the same Padma bhushan award same time...!!! is this fair enough??
Also, there is so much lobbying, recommendations for padma awards from central ministers and other influential politicians...
How can a criminally accused Chatwal given a padmabhushan award?
How can Saif ali khan get a padma sri award when there are so many stalwarts in the Hindi film industry? Saif was also accused in animal poaching case.......How can harbhajan get padma sri when there are so many other experienced cricketers in india?
I really can't understand really what counts to get a padma award?
Thousands deserve padma award year...but, only a handful of people get it...it really adds to the animosity of other people instead of serving the real purpose of the award....

Are rest of the awardees of no importance
by chaitannya mahatme on Apr 01, 2010 09:22 AM  | Hide replies

Out of 5 pics, 3 are of bollywood, i.e. 60% of and exclude 1 group photo, that would be 80%. My uncle who got the award, had been seamlessly working for past 25 years doing research in eye care and more importantly taking it to the underprivileged. There are 50 other awardees who have spent their entire life dedicated to a noble cause.Doesn't that act deserve any media coverage. Surely that's the nadir of press.

This is India and not America.

Here, only people in limelight/controversy are recognized. Your uncle has done very good job that's why he was not given his due coverage...

Tell your uncle to do one serious crime then his award will be snatched and he will be covered in media with his past achievement...
like...
Breaking News: "Person who did better eye research did so and so....". And whole india will see what your uncle research was.

Hai na happy ending

Though what shyam says seems harsh.. it is the ground reality that one needs to agree .

It is us the Indian public who gets interested in these cheap news and un-necesary coverage .There by giving them more hits --> more profit --> more stupid news --> stupidity even in meaningful news . Nobody to blame .

Cutting the clutter ... All due respect to the deserved awardees ( and your uncle too chaitanya .Be Happy that your uncle's efforts are recongnized , there are a pool of people who deserves these awards , but are ignored . forget r=diff yaar ... )

Well said Srinath! Chaitanya of course people know that the contributions of people like your uncle are very valuable and they are respected. The media goes after the celebrities ignore them. Look at the coverage the Sania's wedding is getting. I do not think the average joe really cares that much... it shoved down our throats

Why wasn't the Padma vibushan awarded to Laloo, Sonia, Shard, Mulayam, Mamta, Maya, PC, MMS... These guys have done more for India. One of the people in this list has done more than the other combined. Shame on the selection commitee.

Why to Non-Indian?
by ravinder khatana on Apr 01, 2010 09:04 AM

Why a non-Indian (Venkatraman Ramakrishnan) got Padma Vibhushan Award. Don't we have eligible person in India...Even this person himself said "He is not Indian why Indian sending so many email to him and these emails are making me frustrate". This kind of award put aside Indian citizens. UPA don't feel shame to give this award...I don't have words but feeling very upset.
