by Navi Reyd on Mar 08, 2010 12:48 AM

What about those Maharashtrians who are not born in Bombay, would Bal Thackeray's proposed permit system to enter Bombay apply to them also?

and his band of sena thugs are cowards of the worst kind. If they have the balls then rather than harassing innocents they should fight the real terrorists.

Do they have the guts to fight the Taliban types. The whole of shiv sena wont last a single day in NWFP.

Thackray is a paper tiger that never leaves his den. Shame on him and his supporters.

Why no such large scale migration to Lucknow or Patna
by Vijay T on Mar 07, 2010 08:34 PM  | Hide replies

Wondering why there is no migration of Marathis from rural Maharashtra into Mumbai. Is it becoz there is no need to migrate? Probably rural ppl are well off compared to their counterparts in UP/Bihar.
Also wondering why there is no migration to Lucknow or Patna; the UP/Bihar politicians shld be ashamed of themselves for letting their ppl down every single time and forcing them to migrate to other states.

U may not be aware given ur limitation of being a frog in the well,Delhi is occupied mostly by People from all over india and no such issue exists as so far no BT has come up.It is the mental set up of people in the location who decide the statements from politicians. People from all over should be kept coming to Mumbai until mental framework of so called locals gets nationalised.

Locals denied self-rule because of MASS-MIGRATION
by howudoudo on Mar 07, 2010 08:26 PM  | Hide replies

Migration is fine, but MASS-MIGRATION is not. It is a form of aggression, especially so when these migrants do not assimilate, but maintain their identity to form a vote-bank and ultimately aim to usurp political power from locals. That's what is happening in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra has witnessed waves of migrants from different communities and states over the years, none of which have formed a distinct and separate political vote-bank as the UP/Biharis have done. Please note visible signs of these like the rise of Kripashankar Singh and Sanjay Nirupam as high-ranking Congress leaders who clearly represent and espouse the causes of UP/Bihari vote bank, recent attempts to separate Mumbai out of Maharashtra in the name of development and funds disbursement, moves to make Hindi as an official language in the Municipal Corporation, politicisation of Chatt puja, regular visits of UP/Bihari regional political leaders (Amar, Lalu, Maya) to address political rallies attended by lakhs in Maharashtra, negligible representation of locals in local jobs in an all-India resource like Indian Railways, political moves to repeatedly extend slum-rehabilitation deadlines to mainly benefit recent migrants (mostly UP/Biharis), contract labor system which directly source labor from UP/Bihar at below-minimum wages, etc. all to the detriment of the local population.

The concerns expressed about political dominance of certain leaders is matter of parochial thoughts which needs to be widened.Delhi real cosmopolitan state representing mostly people from UP/Bihar. No one thinks there about the origin of the leaders, the bureaucrats or other people.
the moot question is why a person from far off who has to feed his family away in bihar /up is able to defeat in competition to a local person who has the edge of language and expenditure over these so called migrants.as far as contention of negligible rep in services,it is here that SS and MNS can play role to make them competent enough. the marathis though hard working are not able to compete in national level exams, possibly due to inferiority complex generated by SS/MNS.As per my experience, marathis r least discriminated all over India and Biharis most. But Biharis have developed a sense of struggle to counter this discri=mination.See how they come in fairly large numbers to delhi and prepare for CS /PCS under heat and dust.
