emergency
by raman govindan on Jul 06, 2010 07:48 AM

if she had made compulsory secular education to every child upto 16 years of age using the emergency powers, she would not have had to lift the emergency for few more years in spite of all the excesses and had continued in power for another 20 years comfortably. ego was the factor for emergency and not national interest. it continues with most of the politicians of india, none excluded.

In all due respect, its past we live in today

She is not there to defend herself therfore. we shouldn't dart her image anymore...

As a responsible citizen we should also understand that she was a PM in a era when India was getting established as a country & Cold war was on its Peak...
Till date not even a single country which was Pro USSR has stable economy or imgae in the world..Its only India which has survived, won the war against NATO(1971 Indo-Pak war), I personally feel that emeregency was put in place to counter US & NATO in post victory as history suggests, they have always tried do dirty tricks to ruin the leadership & political set of any country ( Iraq, Kosova, North Korea, Iran) are biggest exmpale...As a PM Indra Gandhi did her best to over come..Rest what media says, I personally don't belive...Ican only empathise with people who have suffered but country's interest is suprime always & every time....

I dont support same party now as they are doing best to exploit the weeker section & helping the industralists top expand their wealth...

I am sorry mr singh, despite factors you mentioned, India was not her Jagir and the lady has violated Constitution blatantly and despite her shinig achievements in creating Bangladesh and Sikkim etc, her Dictatorial shadows far more darkens the crime. We are not talking of traffic offence. This lady must be and will be painted as a person who was a blot on indian democracy. The woman was crazy for power and did not display any dignity , in short, one of the many small minded politicians India is full of.Her crime is unforgivable.

We are one nation who keep on either praising or denigrating ourselves. What I have seen in other countries is that people are happy. They help each other, enjoy their holidays and festivals and are truthful to their fellow countrymen. Perhaps what they do not have is knowledge of English language. It is time we appraise ourselves in a realistic manner.

people who praise Indira Gandhi- She was the worst PM India ever had. She destroyed institutions, encouraged license raj, imposed emergency, nationalized banks (and destroyed work culture), increased corruption, created monster like Bhindrawale etc.
P.S.- I am not anti-congress, I voted for them this time. Bit she was very bad for India.

United, we never have stood, never stand, never will stand.

Divided, we always fell, are falling, will keep falling.

We, are India.
