Bhopal like incident even happened in US 1989
by sssssppppp on Jun 24, 2010 04:06 PM

OSHA's major findings included: Lack of process hazard analysis; inadequate standard operating procedures (SOPs); non-fail-safe block valve; inadequate maintenance permitting system; inadequate lockout/tagout procedures; lack of combustible gas detection and alarm system; presence of ignition sources; inadequate ventilation systems for nearby buildings; fire protection system not maintained in an adequate state of readiness. Additional factors found by OSHA included: Proximity of high-occupancy structures (control rooms) to hazardous operations; inadequate separation between buildings; crowded process equipment; insufficient separation between the reactors and the control room for emergency shutdown procedures.[2]

Quoting from a key OSHA document:[9]

"At the conclusion of the investigation (April 19, 1990), OSHA issued 566 willful and 9 serious violations with a combined total proposed penalty of $5,666,200 to Phillips 66 Company and 181 willful and 12 serious violations with a combined total proposed penalty of $729,600 to Fish Engineering and Construction, Inc., a maintenance contractor on the site."

no use even if the generous offer is accepted ..babus must be salivating at new forex corruption opportunity..
machines donated by japanese to mumbai hospitals were left to rot..recently.
somehow people abroad still have humane feelings left for suffering within india..
somehow indian babus have become immune..to it
common man is left to live with it

Nice Strategy
by raheja on Jun 24, 2010 03:47 PM

wow, what a way.
You all must have heard about the company named British Petroleum which was drilling near US Coast. And the US govt has almost asked for a penalty from it. The European Union is angry over it. What is coming onto my mind is that the Bhopal Tragedy has been done by a US Company hence the European Union wants to help us so that they can show the level and extent of contamination which has happened which would be a slap on US face.
Nice way ...tit for tat

Now ,We cannot Clean up our Mess in Bhopal
by D goel on Jun 24, 2010 03:43 PM

D. Goel ,pkl., afternoon 3.50Pm, thursday, June 24, 2010.
I think we can see the humane and generous feeling of honourable members of ECM Parliament , as they write to PM of India to assist the Biological Mess on UNION CARBIDE Campus creating disease and Death for past 25 yrs.Well, that is fine generous Sentiment to extend European Norms and Standards of safety and hygiene for the victims of Gas Disaster of 1984 , December, still languishing all these decades.
Yet ,this shows ,how, all our claims of making as a Super-Power and getting into Computer-generated Progress are fake and delusive.
Unfortunately ,we are a juxta-posituion of different Pages of Civilization's long haul over epochs without any fusion or assimilation except warped Minds and confusions...D. Goel

Good gesture
by ramamoorthy sethuraman on Jun 24, 2010 03:39 PM

We must salute them for their human approach. Our politicians & political parties must learn from them and first think of cleaning up the place atleast after a period of 25 years. There should not be any politics in this & all political parties must join hands.

Congress will reject the offer, as they still have to milk the tragedy to fill up their coffers.
