Re: buy only with INR policy

What they shall need is long term policy stability to ensure that strategic infrastructure is in place and they have complete flexibility in terms of their manufacturing expansion, contraction and development policies. The kind of policies which they enjoy in western nations.
Evolving such polices in India would be beneficial to all Indian companies as well. It would be a win win for development efforts.
Else these big ticket Dollar purchases are severe drain on our resources, worse they shall only create long term dependencies. We need to settle for interdependencies instead with INR participation.

We have had INR-Rouble trade with Russia. There is no reason to think that strategic infrastructure which includes even upto MIL level technology collaboration can not be extended to financial integration.
It is by building such institutional linkages alone that real collective security can be obtained. A mere buyer-seller relationship or some arbitrary set percentage defying rationale of production or economics can only breed loopholes and inefficiencies.
The history of procurement of equipments and worse still of spares with rampant corruption and middle-men who add no real value except clearing bottle-neck by greasing various palms are no pancea. The vitiate the patriotic spirit and hurt officer morale.
We need superior institutional and infrastructural integration for innovation and volume production at affordable costs, equally important for spin off to civilian sectors.
For whom?? All the existing ones are almost rusted without being used for ages!! Anyway, with Congress around, Pakistan will not be attacked and with CPM around, China will not be attacked!! So, whom are these weapons for?? For RSS??

And you forgot the great Republic Day parade where we can display these rusted pieces of aluminium to the cotton candy/lollypop eating kids!! It also amuses the incoming guest from some third world country to clap for his heart's content like the followers of ZakirNaik clap!!

Whatever be the case, it is good that we are going in for lots of aircraft and other weapons to strengthen ourselves on our borders with Pak and China. Heard that we are buying advanced mountain radars for installation near Chinese borders to detect their movements. Airfields near Ladakh and Arunachal have been upgraded and latest aircraft inducted.
Indian Govt must beware of the dubious US policyon one one hand helping the murdurous Jihaadis with arms and cash and putting India on the defensive and fleecing with promise of weapons supply thereby hitting us both says. In the event of conflict pretend to be neutral and cut of spares and supplies. Jihaadis have get weapons free that makes them to do mischief as is the case for so many years

Going by Name ...mine looks better than yours ...but who knows you may be a more genius . If they dont go out of box you wont be having Laser Guided pods fitted on Jaguar . You wont have MIRVed AGNI 3/5 . Your judgement is based on some pre conceived notions that these DRDOs are full of people with wiered name and who do everything for promotion . Come on buddy rise above . Cheers Neo

Neo : What you say is correct. These organisations have not been found wanting in conception of weapon systems. The issue is of development and deployment. They have been poor at this.
We must encourage our domestic agencies, but they must also realise the armed forces have to fight with contemporary weapons with our enemies. If a domestic agency is developing a system, then we dont import such systems. In the end, if they do not follow promised schedules, then there are large holes in our defence capability.
Nonetheless, the new path being adopted is joint development of weapon systems like the Brahmos and FGFA.
It is also proposed two private companies in India would be asked to develop futuristic systems with the armed forces having cleared the critical parameters they want. They will be given a schedule. They will have to demonstrate the developed systems as scheduled. The company whose product matches the requirement would be awarded the contract. The company which looses would have also lost all the developmental costs.
Once this is in place, Indian armament industry would have undergone a sea change.
