I love Mumbai
by mallaiah anchoori on Jul 03, 2010 10:25 PM

Such lashing rains are a part of Mumbai life to which all the Mumbites are well accustomed. Mumbites are great people who take every thing in the stride & remain unfettered even in the face of very trying situations-be it 1992 Bombay blasts,26th November shoot outs by the terrorists or the incessant & unpredictable rains as this.Whether it rains or not,a typical Mumbai commuter is always on his heels & he feels odd if he remains at home even during such days of inclement weather with no indication of a particular time of his arrival back & spending the night with his family members. And for those who wish to enjoy a forced holiday, such a day is a God sent opportunity.I lived in Mumbai for 7 years & still discreetly remember as to how we moved back to homes in bands by walk through the knee deep rainy waters from Worli to Saantacruz;it was very thrilling & exciting.I have no hesitation to decry the pitfalls in the civic administration which is awfully failing in keeping pace with the much needed revamping of the drainage system of this great metropolitan, but its over all performance could certainly be stated as the best in India. For a city of this size & increasing population,it is its discipline in every walk of life that saves it.Though stigmatised with don activities & illicit/illegal dealings,a common man of the city is seldom affected unless he deliberately pokes his nose in su

How does that matter when most of the city is water logged?

Besides, Rediff staff is more concerned with identifying foreign location accurately not Indian cesspools.

Monsoon Rain in Mumbai!
by aditya vyas on Jul 03, 2010 09:59 PM  | Hide replies

I think we should also understand that Mumbai gets one of the strongest monsoon rain compare to anywhere else. The speed of rain in the monsoon is very high within few hours it just rains a lot.

It's very hard control ample amount of water in such less time. I know there is poor dranage but we should also accept that we get heavy monsoon aswell.

People should also get responcible. Throw their rubbish in the bin rather than on the roads n sideways. There are just too many people there.

Govt. should start thinking about alternative cities. Shift some work from Mumbai to other parts of India.

Weather dept is a whether dept
by sunder iyer on Jul 03, 2010 09:24 PM

It is a shit dept .Does not know anything. When it pours it immdly jumps and predicts there will heavy rains in the next 247 to 48 hrs and exactly the opposite happens. It is better we close down this dept. and outsource the same to some foreign entity
