Nuclear Liability Bill needs scrutiny
by sathyam guda on Aug 25, 2010 02:25 PM

Our Parliament has created a dangerous precedence by voting for N.Bill in the last parliament. Ofcourse it costed power to NDA and Humiliation to Mr.Karat. Now there is one more chance in the form of N.Liability bill. Make best use of it. Nuclear accidents/disasters even if they happen once in 1000 years they wipe out human kind. The latest prediction by (for got the name of Nobel Lauret)nobel prize winner in physics is that piled up neuclear weapons would disintegrate planet earth in about 200 years. do we go for N.Power since any way N.Weapons pile up is going to destroy planet earth or should we take the N.Liability bill as a god given chance to stop neuclearisation of power generation in India?

NUCLEAR POWER IF INDIA-Public liability
by sree lal on Aug 24, 2010 10:40 AM

Please have a comparative study of our bill with those applicable to the west.
They do not risk their people and they accept and have absolute liability irrespective of fault (absolute liability for any loss arising out of the same) and compulsory adequate public liability insurance schemes.

why not have the same clauses for India too.

Madras born KR Sridhar can be bigger than all Nuclear reactors.

KR Sridhar is the principal co-founder and CEO of Bloom Energy, KPCB's first greentech investment. Bloom Energy develops a flexible fuel cell system that produces clean, reliable and affordable energy from a wide range of fuels. Bloom's technology enables consumers to generate their own electricity for less than they pay their utility, and to reduce their carbon emissions by 50-100% per kW depending on the fuel.
Prior to founding Bloom Energy, Dr. Sridhar led a team developing technologies to sustain life on Mars for NASA. For his work, Fortune Magazine cited him as "one of the top five futurists that are inventing tomorrow today". Before this Dr. Sridhar was a professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering as well as Director of the renowned Space Technologies Laboratory (STL) at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Sridhar received his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Honors from the University of Madras, India, as well as his M.S. in Nuclear Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Sridhar has served on many technical committees, panels and boards. He has over fifty publications and is a sought-after speaker and advisor on energy and environmental issues. He is outspoken in his belief that the climate crisis we face is also a tremendous economic opportunity, that energy policy must be technology-neutral and performance-based and that we can solve our current energy problems through a combinati

signing the agreement was a huge mistake as much as the defecit in power we have but selling out is a different matter altogeather. us has made all exclusions for them selves and all inclusions for us. and the cost of power is a big if. what has stopped the upa in discussing the same in the floor of the house beats me. it only shows they had a lot to hide and finish this deal before bush left office. i say we cans till back out and save face from our own citizens. the bjp too is partly to blame for not doing the right thing by putting enough pressure for stopping the agreement.

American companies should not be allowed to set up nuclear plants in India. Our Atomic Energy Commission can do so with Russian help, if necessary.

The correct way is to set up coal-fired power stations, one in each district of the country.

Coal power needs coal which are of substandard in India & to have long tern supply contract from countries like Brazil,Indonesia, Australia... Coal plant are developed fast but that cause environment pollution. So Hydro, solar & wind power will make benefit in the long term. Capital if needed to be employed but it will benefit to the masses & good for the future generation.

There is a limitation to fossils. Limited availability, depleting reserves, not eco-friendly to name a few.

As far as the Nuclear Liability bill is concerned, we need to see, if Rs.500 Crores is the liability that the operator/investor is going to bear?? And, what about the upsides he is going to earn for another 50 years (the life of a plant??).. And, the Indian Government is guaranteeing the lapses that might occur due to the operator from the taxes earned from its people.

There needs to be un-limited liability..
