hey i don't understand why we need other planes, sukhoi does mach 2.0 , ht of 17.5 kms range of 3000 kms , 17000 pounds of ordinance!!,i guess having more add fuel tanks would only increase the capacity , Why not more sukhoi 30's which are comparitively quite cheap = Hornet , instead of the 5G 4.5G craze ? or does congress Yuvraj want one for himself !!?

you can go and buy the chinese make F-22 and F-16 copied from US. but dont know when it will fall down. all the best.
Assuming India lost 1.76lac crores due to 2G auction, if that would not have happened then India can own 100's of these fighter jets which will make India the real super power. Instead of few people benefits out of the scam, the whole country would have benefits with these 100's of super jets. Simple logic :)
The F-18 is not on offer to India for the MMRCA. It is the F-18 Super Hornet which is on offer to India. Other than being a pretty good a/c it is also significantly different to the F-18 Hornet. Also the F-16 version on offer to India is a new version called the F-16IN. It is close to the F-16s bought by UAE in terms of features. Both feature AESA radars which are currently operational. While I am not endorsing either fighter for India, i hope with this post i can dispel some misconceptions

good one !! with a few liquor deals, our beloved cricketers can buy these TOYS. Then, they can avoid practise and fly to the match location immediatly!
Thats not what the American's are offering us, we only get to choose the old F16,F18s.At any rate its not the best.Rediff should do some more research before publishing such stuff.Russia on the other hand has already offerd the SU35 which will be inducted in their own airfoce in 2013.The US is developing F35 a truly fifth gen fighter.

US offered the fa/18 hornet i think.. but defence deals with the US involve too many binding terms n cascading effect of other deals n policies with them

Correct. They attach too many strings. Moreover, after taking the best price they dictate all future foreign policy terms to the buyer, as though there is nowhere else to go.

The F35 is a watered down version of the F22 Raptor.
The F22 project was proving so very expensive that the US Congress has refused further funding and halted production to whatever level already inducted in the USAF. Future production would be of the F35, which too would be in the FGFA category.
The defining feature of the FGFA apart from other benefits like advanced avionics is stealth and super cruise capabilities. These capabilities would also be available in the Indo-Russian FGFA.
Where is the "indigineously" developed Indian super fighter. With its Nano powered engines, I'm sure it can take all of these aircraft. Where is it???? I lose my appetite when I see of picture ofthat piece of sh1t.

Its guzzling tax payer's money for 3 decades now.The 'indigenous' fighter has US GE-405 engines!
Re: Re: Where is India's Nano!

No, there is no engine called GE 405.
The LCA was suppose to have the indigenous Kaveri engine. The Kaveri engine did not generate the requisite thrust so the prototypes now at Bangalore are with the GE 404 engines. Later the airforce revised its standards for which a higher engine viz GE 414 was required. The deal for supply of the new engines has been signed and 110 of these aircrafts would go under production.

I think you are referring to the Tejas LCA.
The Tejas aircraft structurals and avionics are ready but the Kaveri engine is not.
However, the GOI has given the go ahead for production of 110 of these aircrafts with GE 414 engines. The deal for supply of 110 of these engines was signed during the recent visit of President Obama.
As and when the Kaveri engine is developed to generate the requisite thrust, new aircraft orders would be given beyond the 110 mentioned above.
The GOI has also given the go ahead for development of the Medium Combat Aircraft - MCA.
