Our planners will never open their eyes to reality
by VijaySagar on Aug 18, 2010 11:10 AM

Buildiing mafia, politicians and local goons have made money and will make more money at the cost of the taxpayers. Isnt it time we had some building standards, and the law be implemented in totality. Nothing changes, and nothing will change, more people will die, thats the agenda of our politicians. The only changes will happen once we have an urban planning department, and the muncipal corporations in charge of these areas take responsibility for the substandard work done.

Superpower of Builders & Politician Mafia
by Argumentative Indian on Aug 18, 2010 11:07 AM

It is not MMS, Sonia or in their times, Vajpayee or PV Narasimha Rao, who sanction building construction / safety permits, approve periodic inspections etc. It is the local grassroots politicians, the Municipal Corporator, the guy who comes house to house to canvass for votes.

Our cities are crumbling today, not because of immigration as some shrewd politicians would have us believe, nor because of the ineffectiveness of the nominated Prime Minister, but because of the extremely lower class Corporators. Usually, this tribe is very less educated, of low ambition and lower IQ. Sophisticated people cannot fight elections against them and win, because the larger vote banks like Jhuggi / Jhopdis won't vote for the sophisticated.

It would be good to take these Corporators for compulsory education tours to western countries and China and at least enlighten them as to how human beings actually live. Even if 10% of them are infected by the bug of progress, there will be progress.

It is all Vote bank politics. It is those who are in illegal constructions who go out and vote. The only decent place in Kalwa is Sanghvi and Ozone valley.
