China : G.K.PILLAI

The indian ocean belongs to the global population. The naval exercises are common thing. The submarines are occupying its place anywhere within the seven seas. The competition between the nations may result up many problems. Power spoils our relations.

it is a common phenomenon that countrys will flex there muscles immediately after acquiring power. this is a tactic to get more world attention and superiority.

i dont think there is an alternative than to give the G2 status to china along with US. Leave the south china sea to china, since they are the most powerful in the region. a hard bargain could be useful on the economic area with all the beneficiaries, but china may not be willing to tolerate supercarriers in their vicinity. they have the might (though now very very small, but looking at their interest in seas, it is going to be significant (even then miniscule infront of mighty US))

a power struggle escalating to tension is not good for any of the contestants.

We on the other end should try to keep up our defence since immediately after the south china sea they are for sure to come to our back yards with new carriers and latest weaponry.
we cannot match them but we can be prepared to retaliate in case it runs off. our current pace is not good we need more ocean mindedness for atleast next 20 years.

and to Mr. Kolappa Pillai i used to wonder why you write GK pillai in all your messeges, and if you dont mind pls do tell. I initially thought the reply is something to do with home secretary's messege!

They are not randomly chosen if you had had the guts to say where you were from to begin with. Anyway, dont they have newspapers in Lanka or is it the Tamils who run them too?

After filling all those university seats and keeping the Tamils out, you must have learned something, pat. I grant you that. But compare your self to Cuba and not India. And Cuba is waaaaaay ahead, Pat. And India is waaaaay ahead too Pat on most counts. Dont use illiteracy figures because you guys are a good example of how little education makes one 'literate'!

there is a story about akbar: he was very upset that he could not capture Rana Pratap (a rajput king whose horse was renowned Chetak) that he decided to hang a painting of Rana in his toilet. Birbal apparently didnt like the insult of a mighty adversary in this manner. He jested to Akbar: "your majesty it seems that you are getting motions only if you see photo of Rana pratap" the very next day Akbar removed the photo!

so the moral of the story is you can have undrgarments of symbols any of your adversary but it just shows you dont have the dare to take them head on.

there is nothing wrong in learning a new language. Chinese language is going to be another English in future. but i heard from many that learning Chinese is a bit difficult, but it may not be so also.

in order to counter India Lanka is more than willing to side with china and pak as US is anyway wary of Lanka often bringing human rights and all.

every soverign nation has the right to decide which basket they put their eggs. only one can hope that lanka doesnt go the way chinas friends like n korea, pak, iran etc.

Yeah, right! You miserable bunch almost settled and it was Prabhakaran who foolishly wanted more. He should have accepted the deal and left you in the dust. It was rajiv gadhi's killing that made the difference, not your armed forces (sorry, I meant farmers/monks combine)!

equally so
by sri on Aug 16, 2010 09:52 PM  | Hide replies

Even though India never claimed the Indian ocean to be its own and was/is only concerned about large scale Chinese maritime and territorial presence in it, a Chinese general said a few years ago that it was "not India's Ocean". Look at the gall of these people now. They should be reminded that South China Sea is certainly not China's sea!

China sea is not china's sea
by venu sense on Aug 16, 2010 09:29 PM  | Hide replies

One thing the Chinese should understand is that China sea is not China's sea. It may be named that way. Well if this kind of Intransigence continues on part of china; we will be left with no other option but to change the name of so called china sea.East Asian sea will be a better choice.
Off course, India being the biggest neighbour of China its reasonable for India to mediate in the various disputes that the chinese have with their neighbours.

China as it gets more powerful and stronger in economic field, is starting to flex its muscles to show who is the boss. For all their talk of no power show, they do the opposite. History shows that, they have some serious border disputes with not just India, but most S E Asian nations. Their claim on the vast South China sea is ridiculous and shows up their belligerence and their real intentions. They want to call the shots and dictate terms. No wonder Japan and other SE Asian nations all along were wary of the them and now this has come out in open.

As a growing power, it needs to act reasonably and in a matured manner else what all respect it has today would get evaporated.

And Indian leadership is bunch of "chhakkas" who can never initiate in this direction, even if China will invade India, India will never be able to confront in a proper way because we don't really have a will to be physically strong and show anyone a way to stay away from us, May God save our country

MR HARSH PANT'S ARTICLE HAS SHARP CLARTY
by this that on Aug 16, 2010 09:12 PM

MR HARSH PANT IS CLEAR IN DESCRIBING AS AN OBSERVER.

MR. PANT SHOULD ACTUALLY SUGGEST STEPS AT THE END SO THAT INDIANS PARTICIPATE IN THE ISSUE INSTEAD OF SITTING ON FENCE AND SEE OUR INTERESTS 'TAKE ITS COURSE' WITH TIME AS IF IT HARDLY MATTERS TILL CHINESE TOUCH OUR INTERESTS.

SO I WOULD LIKE TO GO AHEAD AND REQUEST CLEAR ACTIONS AS GUIDE LINES TO OUR POLICY MAKERS AND ENFORCERS OF NATIONAL INTERESTS.

THANK YOU MR. PANT.
