just pouring money alone will not help, just look what's happening in Kashmir. I am sure that Thailand will not be investing as much as India has done in Kashmir. Still, the place is haunted by terrorism. Why ? The basic problem in India is corruption in every corner of Govt offices and in every corner and centers of power of India. Only when this is taken head-on, will things improve in India. The dragon of corruption MUST be chopped down. Caste, poverty, etc are only excuses !

naxals
by gac on Aug 09, 2010 11:22 AM

the problem is very much indian and its system, maybe we can tackle naxlas by taking solution from outside, which really dosnt matter. we have to stop the reasons for naxals being created, which nternal system changes only can do.

Naxal Problems- whose?
by Bodh Ramdeo on Aug 09, 2010 06:51 AM  | Hide replies

What may work there will not work here.
Thailand doesn't have an oppressive, rigid caste system like in India.
Until and unless the evil caste system is made redundant- a thing of the past, this poverty-stricken land will never expoerience its tryst with destiny.

What?

Caste system is not the evil. It is the discrimination among castes is the problem. When you have discrimination in the blood and a urge to show superiority, you will use any reason to show that - political, social or even monetary status. Caste System is just one bahana. People will find one or the other reasons.

I have lived in urban Karnataka in the south and I have not seen any affects of caste system where as I have seen more problems due to language. I have experienced the same when I was in Bombay too. Caste based discrimination I have seen more in north India.

mark my words thailands approach not going to work
by doc on Aug 09, 2010 04:18 AM

if by soft power they mean to reconvert the muslim population or part of it then they might succeed otherwise their effort will simply go down the gutter. by using the development funds these people will become richer and reuse there new found wealth against their benefactor in much renewed vigor than before.

Thailand cares more for social needs
by Jaganath Bharat on Aug 09, 2010 02:33 AM

India ignored basic needs like clean water, sanitation, food and shelter, safety, roads and infrastructure. When millions of people are being ignored East, North, West, South, naturally there will be discontent. India needs to admit it's failures and shortcomings in order to satisfy it's own population. All these civil uprisings, while perhaps supported and exploited by foreign nations, are basically due to domestic discontent.
