I am happy that someone is taking the initiative. I hear the faint noise of human rights and privacy laws of police staff being stomped, in the name of getting them fit. And hope he is also not lining his pockets with kick backs from the equipment company. These equipments breakdown in a matter of weeks and no one will maintain it.
I sincerely home that this doesn't result in age and sex based discrimination.
After a certain period given to get fit, percentage of pay of overweight policemen should be deducted and pooled so as to be shared by those who have made themselves fit!
Body mass index correlates loosely with Body composition. The Policemen do require Body Form to impress the ordinary citizen. But the glamour of money does that better.Better salaries and better living condition have positive and negative effects at the same time.Fighting fit means Smaller Recation Time,Better Coordination and Flexibility with Strength gained from Machines and Weights together with High Cardio Respiratory Endurance. All this can be achieved only on a Football or Hockey Ground,Tennis and Squash Courts and Swimming and Trekking Activity.A Gym can give false sense of Assurance just as Cricket can give a false sense of Sportmanship.
A healthy and fit professional can contribute in a much more improved manner to his/her work enviornment. If more of such facilities and other welfare shemes to take care of police personnel and their families are also implemented like, accomodation, educational, health benefit schemes, the police personnel will become motivated to perform their duties more efficiently. Just reassure the policeman on the beat patrol that he and his family are well taken care of and you will find police personnel displaying the same levels of professionalism as our armed forces. Jai Hind!
