Just trying to make the locals feel important he is. They might end up feeling so chuffed he might trick them into signing the NPT. Now if the locals don't play along he will change his tune - play good cop bad cop.
A saintly speech. He talks about nuclear energy. Canada and Australia account for 50% of Uranium deposit. Canada has stopped building more nuclear plants. The Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, the last plant built in Canada, was five years behind schedule when it was finished in 1993. Its price tag ballooned to $14-billion from $5-billion. They wanted to build two reactors at Darlington n-facility but is on hold now. HE is advocating nuclear plants in developing world. Not in Canada and Australia. Why? There is ulterior motives behind this. The developed world is trying to dump all nuclear wsates in developing countries. After Chernobil and Threemile Island disasters Russia and US stopped building nuclear plants. Then why should HE advises developing countries to go ahead with nuclear plants. India should not follow his advice. THis is part of the wider conspiracy that is going on for several decades. yes Nuclear energy is bad. But the alternatives are even worse. There are not many greener alternative to N energy for the needs of the ever growing needs of energy.
It is true that many developed countries are not willing to use nuclear power fearing of the after effect. But as a developing country our energy needs are huge and cannot be met with other alternatives (be it hydroelectric, coal, fossil fuel, or renewable energy) in an economic sense. So until we find better alternatives, for which we might be decades away, we have to invest in n-plants. Only we have to be careful in the use of these fuels.
