This para does not make any chronological sense ...
by Pradip Rabindranath on Sep 21, 2009 11:25 AM  | Hide replies

The Pakistan military's operation against the Lal Masjid in July 2007 totally changed Ilyas Kashmiri. He moved to North Waziristan where he had spent many years as an instructor in jihad against the Soviet army. This area was full of his friends and sympathisers. He reorganised his 313 brigade and joined hands with the Taliban [ Images ], but was never close to the Al Qaeda leadership.

wonder if someone can remove my confusion ... in 2007; the soviet Union , many years a jihad instructor (2007 to 2009 can never make many years!!)

Rgds.

right again 1982 if he was 25 to 30 now he must have been between around 60.

It means that he had spent many years in Waziristan as jihad instructor against Soviets. It doesn't say that this was in 2007. It says that in 2007 he returned to Waziristan (where he had earlier fought against soviets).

Read the full article. Soviet army withdrawn in 1988. He was instructor to Afghat guirillas prior to 1988 and obviously had lot of friends there.

Later, he abandoned all his activities after he was released from jail. But the 2007 Lalmasjid operation by Pakistani military forced him to once again go to his old operational area. That is all. I do not know what confusion you have. May be I ahve missed something!

Who was the India Army Officer killed ?
by Don Wann on Sep 21, 2009 11:19 AM  | Hide replies

It is quite tragic to learn about the beheading of the army officer. What else can one expect from barbarians ?

Does anyone know his name and rank ? What was communicated officially about his death in India ? Is his name on Amar-Jawan in Delhi ?

My heart felt condolences to the family of the officer.
