Who is accountable?
by Ganesh Sadasivan on Nov 04, 2009 08:04 AM

Somebody should be held accountable for this tragedy. The petroleum minister should resign. The chairman of the company should be sacked. Only then the seriousness of the issue will percolate. Just an enquiry commission will not solve. Surprisingly even the BJP is not taking the issue seriously.

jaipur fire
by arvind prakash on Nov 03, 2009 06:18 PM

the officials of IOC were staling nearly 15 trucks of oil evry day and selling in the market by tinkering with the valves which transmitted the oil. this was going on for many months and a CBI investigation was ongoing. On the day of the fire there was a difficulty in controlling the valve through which the pilferage was being done. The oil leak got ut of hand and in the panic of being caught the employees were trapped in their own deceit. In any case IOC is full of reserved category employees esp Meena and gurjars . They are anyhow incompetent. But it pains the common man that the scarce resources of our country are in the hands of such incompetant, corrupt and conniving people. Not even God can save us !

Poor maintenance and care of IOCL
by kuthalingam balan on Nov 02, 2009 12:05 AM

IOCL pays less interest on maintenance and Safety of the equipment in their refinery. In my experience in last 10 year, bi-monthly there used to be an electrical flash over due to lack of maintenance across India. All IOCL seniors must be held responsible for such fire and improper care.... They just don't care about safety in work........

India's economy getting affected due to such irresponsible staffs which is just can't accepted...

My strong suggestion to convert this to Private sector for better control and human safety. Jeyabalan

Fire in Jaipur
by Chiranjib Bhattacharjee on Nov 01, 2009 09:34 PM

IOCL officers should have been more careful. So much precious petroleum products has been converted in to poisonous black fumes, causing tremendous pollution load on the atmosphere, resulting in increased global warming. Further, it resulted in loss of several lives.

careless ness at starting stage of fire
by bankim raval on Nov 01, 2009 02:27 AM  | Hide replies

The fire should extinguish at starting stage. Even IOCL officers should check all the fire extinguishing systems time to time. If the systems work properly then the fire can be controlled upto one tank only. Sprinkler systems of other tanks should go on with immediate effect..........

I agree with ur statement and hope this is an eye opener to all concerned. As as per international regulations there is a foam injection system which is injected from the lower end of the tank and it cools the entire liquid on its way to the top of the tank and then forms a cover on top of the fuel depleting oxygen. I just pray such accidents should not reoccur

Go back and read your science text books. You can't extinguish a petrochemical fire with water. A small fire can be handled by CO2 or foam. Not something this big.

You think they don't have safety systems in place? If nothing else, that oil is expensive. 150 cr of diesel going up in smoke is sufficient for any company to put safety systems. Sometimes, nothing can be done, which seems to be the case here.

NOW WHEN SUCH LEAKS DEVOLOPE THE PRESSURE IS TREMENDOUS --AND STATIC CHARGES ARE DEVOLOPED RESULTING BLAST AND FOLLOWED BY FIRE. I HAVE SEEN AND EXPERIENCED SUCH THINGS HAPPENING IN PROFESSION ==SO THIS POSSIBILITY ALSO CAN NOT BE RULED OUT
