In the back drop of out and out communal parties like SS and BJP, corrupt leaders of Congress and NCP look like angels!

The good and bad
by Analysis on Oct 22, 2009 04:36 PM  | Hide replies

I am happy and sad at the political events since last 2 years, when Congress seems to be gaining in almost every state. I am happy because it shows the Indian people voting for stability. It bestows a great responsibility on Congress to undertake massive development work now, that they have a clear mandate from the people. There can be ZERO excuses now. I am also happy to see the rout of regional parties like SP, BSP etc. Ofcourse I am delighted to see the near extinction of CPI and CPM. There could be no more patriotic duty that to defeat these parties, that's my view !
I am sad, because, one party dominance isnt good for a democracy. We need 2 strong parties - one ruling and one in opposition. BJP has completely lost it. I am (or was) a BJP supporter, but not onw. I mean, support them for what? Advani,Rajnath have screwed up big time. The other thing which worries me is - are we going back to Indira G times? When she ruled, and corruption grew? When Rahul G stands for PM, what would the indian electorate do? Die to vote for him? Just as we did for Indira, and now know what it did to our country? That scares me. Power corrupts, and absolute power, absolute corrupts! Let's see what happens from here. BJP can wake up and improve, or get extinct.

Btw, MMS and ABV were not corrupt. MMS is not corrupt, but just not a good leader. With this much mandate, anyone should be bold enough for masive reforms in Indian systems - starting with Administrative and Police departments. There is stil no vision for the country, no big ticket reforms - economic or administrative, and that just saddens me. If they cant do with this mandate, what else do they expect?

When the PM gets corrupt, or supports misuse of power (like Indira did), it percolates to corruption to every level down. That's what happened when she was the PM. It is a known fact that it was I.G's time that Indians got into corruption, big time. All governemnt departments became curupt, because they saw the misuse of power at top, and knew that was a green signal to be corrupt, as long as you can be loyal to the bosses. We have never been able to come out of it. She was however, atleast intelligent. With the coming of Kesari and VP SIngh's and the great sleeper (forgot his name- from Karnataka), we had not only a corrupt system, but foolish PM's too. And that doomed us for good 15 years, when we lost the race to CHina !

I don't think that is true necessarily.I guess congress is still riding the wave of economic boom that was existant pre 2008.I guess people percieve that congress created hapiness.Look at India now there was a time during 1980's when students with degrees didn't get a job.I had seen people with MSc working as peons in government services.Things have changed a lot since then. "A" level education 12th pass with good english skills can get a job for 15,000 easily.Politicians understand that they can't take people for a ride.Bihar is a classic example where people voted for governance and routed laloo. We have far to go because people like sharad pawar and Maya enjoy power still.

BJP is not a party of masses. To win elctions, the party has to reach to common people of India and not bloggers.

A sample that miniscule doesnot count for any statistical significance. Second, are all bloggers on rediff 'congress bashers'? I dont know. But its known to pretty everyone, that educated masses tended to be pro-BJP in earlier days, and neutral or Congress leaning nowdays. Because BJP failed to deliver on any thing substantial in last 6 years. So, some one like me, who did not like Congress and was a BJP supporter, has no option, but to either not vote, or vote for Congress. So I become a pseudo Congress supporter

I guess you are right.I was just looking for atrend here.I think I may have one of the reasons why this is happening. You admitted you won't vote.So those people who don't like congress don't come out to vote.Minorties and other sections of the people do vote in large numbers. As far as delivering is concerned,I don't know who has delivered so far in India.India is being steered by God.You can't say congress delivered thats why they are enjoying the public support

Do not blame Congress for reservations. It was AB Vajpayee who introduced reservations in promotions. When it comes to reservations, every party is worse than the others.

With this kind of defeat I doubt congress will have any opposition in India. I think BJP needs to park its old blood and pump fresh blood into the system before they become an endangered party

BJP tried to come to power on the Hindutva plank divided and rule based on caste and religion, and finally inciting communal violence. BJP is the reason for muslim terrorism in India,BJP need muslim terrorism to expolit the reglious feelings of majority innocent and good Hindus,BUT INTELLIGENT HINDUS VOTTED BJP OUT OF POWER AND THAT IS THE POWER OF GREAT INDIAN DEMOCRACY.

You are wrong. Intelligent and educated people always vote for BJP.
All illiterate people, and religious people are now voting for Congress and other regional parties for sake of getting Money from Congress, so that Congress can rule this country by divide and rule policy.
