No time to lose!

Yes, energy is a must to stay in the curve, keep running to stay where we are & to be relevant!

Chu is Chinese origin. The pace at which China grows is, can we say, break-neck! Our heads will spin if we try to outbeat them! We are like elephants! We saunter at our pace with speed-breakers like strikes, change in govt etc!

Yes, we need more energy to keep the young employed & happy! The cheapest is coal & oil looks to slowly dry up & both pollute the atmosphere! We have limited hydro & wind potential to scale-up! But the Gods are playing truant! I mean, Australia is denying us uranium in the name of principles! But they give in to mighty China! That is life's lessons! We are emotional people! We do not calculate. We pay millions for overseas cricketers to add some apice to our life!

US is making pioneering break-throughs in renewable energy but China is scaling it up! The boss of electric car co BYD is the richest with Buffet putting in a billion. Share prices up 5 times this year!

China is putting up huge coal plants. By comparison, we are in the drawing board only! For eletric cars, battery is the key, more mileage per charge & quick charge! For that lithium-ion is the future for which also China is having 95% of world reserves!

Our SunGod can be our saviour if we can tap his munificence at affordable prices. Then we do not have to beg from anybody again! Yes, India will rise again before we are all dead but Mayan calender ends in 2012, phew!

Dominique Trempont who toured China and India many times brings out comparison in many fields between the two countries:

* Raw materials: China filled up a role gap left by the West in Africa and has become very active in the development of Africa to secure a stable raw material supply including oil.
* Education: In the long run, the quality of education is THE key factor for economic development and growth. The Chinese government has reviewed its needs in schooling and universities, figured out that they could not build the classical teaching infrastructure fast enough, and has decided to build the largest online education capability on earth. India has a first class education system for a select section of gifted children, but it doesn’t scale. China could leapfrog every single country and scale a world class on-line education capability in a few years.
* Electricity: India has massive projects to expand its electricity grid, including nuclear energy plants. On the other hand, electrical power is unreliable today in India and causes significant disruptions. It is almost considered as normal there. In contrast, China seems to have a stable electrical grid.
* Water: One can hardly drink tap water in India while China is looking at seawater desalinization on an economic and very large scale to support its drinkable water needs.
* Pollution: In addition, I see China very involved in other green technologies.

Jagadeesh,

While we need not run down our efforts, we lag very much behind
China. Some may think, life is soffocating in China but only for those who act without reason. A friend told me his years in China made him think whether we can ever attain even a percentage of their quality of life! Their cities compare with the best anywhere, water & electricty 24 hours without fail! Even govt hospitals are good enough.

They have cornered raw materials from Auatralia to Africa! While PM Rudd is talking down on us, he opens up all his mines to China! China has invested $10 billion in Africa & written off loans with those they have relationship!

They have a clear strategy! Once the top decides, they just go hammer & tong! We have even starting troubles & unable to put the enemies of progress at bay.

The irony is, China is the ultimate capitalist! They berate US on protectionsim! Obama has to please them more than Europe & Russia!

Day by day, we are left behind! Our water & power problems are never ending. Nothing succeds like success! All our neighbours seem to align with them along with all others!

China celebrated 60 years of victory as a party! But Mao-era gave such a shock to them, never again! Now they even use his busts & little red books to make money! Wealth is created around the clock. They have 95% of lithium reserves that will power batteries for electric cars, but they still corner other mineral reserves!

We have to wake up real fast!

Energy Independence in India
by Anumakonda JAGADEESH on Nov 14, 2009 12:33 PM

India with 17 per cent of the world population and just 0.8 per cent of the world’s known oil and natural gas resources is going to face serious energy challenges in the coming decades. Former President APJ Abdul Kalam talked of the need for ‘energy security’ as a transition to total ‘energy independence’.
Besides energy independence, the devastating impact of climate change has become an issue of critical importance. Energy production using fossil fuels is the major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Hence, transition to a low-carbon energy economy is the real solution for mitigating the impact of climate change.

Some suggested measures for Energy Independence and to control climate change:
India has at present about 30,000 MW captive generating units (industrial units), of which about 18,000 MW are diesel based. There should be time-bound conversion of these captive units to bio fuel based generation. This will save large amounts of diesel.
Provision for small biomass based energy systems for rural areas.
Indigenous development of small wind power systems upto 25 kW (and hybrids) for stand-alone applications.
Widespread application of co-generation concepts (heat and power) for lighting, heating and cooling.
Solar water heating to be made mandatory throughout the urban areas of the country by 2015, in a phased manner.
A time-bound programme of demonstration of solar rooftop lighting systems in 15,000 government buildings by 2012.
