Why Pakistan is economically weak
by Saibaskar Parthasarathy on Jul 07, 2009 07:53 AM

Th size and population of Pakistan does not suggest that it would be a nation begging for Aid to all and sundry. They can survive on their own money. Only problem is the amount of money that they seem to spend on their armed forces. Pakistan Army is like a huge shoes that cannot fit the toes of Pakistan nation. They waste so much money on Armed forces that they have to beg for their survival. So, when US provides 'Aid' for pakistan it is actually helping Pakistan to keep running its huge Army. This Army is bent on portraying India as an enemy for its own survival. Pakistan should downsize its Army and increase its focus on Policing and having Para-military forces which could combat growing extremism in thier country. If they do that then they will have an economy which is self-sufficient and would go a long way in creating a respectable Pakistan image.

Pak army top brass have survived since its inception on India-threat mantra, imagine all privileges that come with it,they literally run the country. If they had to go with Zardari's new thinking, they would be completely at loss, overnight their status of being the-untouchables would be hijacked, which is more than enough excuse to stick with their agenda,Kashmir is just a convenient scapegoat, like punjab was once. This fear-mongering within pakistan keeps the army in monoplised business with no over-seeing authority.

Pak' Intent!!!

Pakistan has always been a country trying to destablize India. You can judge them from the name of their missiles named after "Gazni" and "Gauri" the two muslim invaders of India and also how many times India has to forgive them after each War. So India should stay firm and see Pak falling in greater Chaos and misery. Although, Pak's ordinary citizens are not at fault but the problem is Pak's Army which cannot be trusted. They did a complete U-turn on Taliban-their own creation. Who are they fooling? India knows them better.

Pak army is a goliath of an issue...
by manjunath naik on Jun 26, 2009 09:39 PM

Pakistan army survives on India bashing. Its not the people or the democracy of Pakistan which comes in the way of building relations between the two countries. I have met scores of Pakistanis here in the Middle East who are incredibly modest, hospitable and my very good friends. All of them do have a reasonably bad impression of their army when it comes to its huge budgetary layout and India focused attitude. If not for the huge funds which have been coming in as aid to run the country, Pakistan's survival will last just few months. It’s the non aided running of India which Pakistani people are in awe of. The marked difference in the growth of India since independence especially education, infra structure and self reliance in every field is a model to be followed for all third world countries in the region. Pakistan has to do some internal soul searching and come out with an inbuilt self sustenance scheme which will not only build Pakistan the right way but will also make the whole world appreciate the capabilities an Islamic country is able to achieve on its own. Its very much possible and I wish and pray it happens sooner than later.

the role of any army is to follow the country's leader's decisions...but the story is opposite on Pak...and hence the demise of Pak on hand..its been held together by US else it would be a rotten place by now..

25% of Pakistan's economy is depended on American aid. Add to it other countries that give them aid.

Pakistan is world's biggest beggar country

India must help Pakistan enhance its democracy.
by New York on Jun 26, 2009 09:12 PM  | Hide replies

Pakistan as a nation is confused, prejudiced and sandwiched between sharia(Saudi) and democracy(India).
One simple solution is using common currency (e.g. euro) across Pakistan and India.

Sardari and military are one and both terrorists. India should not entertain thoughts of Good Paki vs. Bad Paki. All are one and joined at the hip to invade India and steal India's wealth like invader Gori did! What else these Afgans and Paki's have; no schools, no birth control, no jobs, and full of hate. India should liberate from south asian getto thoughts and unleash its private sector to be he best by liberating capital, labor, and markets. Let Indian spirit liberate the world economy from Euro thrashs and racists Sheiks.

The stage seems to set for yet another military coup in Pak.
All US aid will thus be automatically directed against India.
Yet, the US has returned to its time tested cold war equations and does not know how to deal with a new power center in India.
