Dont Try for the Easy Way (OZ,UK) - Try for the Best Way
by Rahul on Jan 08, 2010 11:47 AM

US is always better and safer for desis , but these people who go to UK and OZ deny this by saying british and aussies are friendly and that americans are racist.

The truth is, Americans are mostly very nice to Indians.

People with dubious educational backgrounds and people lazy or fearful of GRE and GMAT go to these colleges of Australia and UK inspite of the local peoples racist attitude. For applying to US, the applicant also needs to do a lot of work, in the case of UK and AUstralia, the educational consultants take care of everything. This lazy way of going abroad makes these students to look at only these easy options.

They then go to these countries and say they are studying in those countries because they love Aussies and British more than Americans. All this inspite of knowing that Financial Aid options are better in the US, dont mind spending parents money in OZ and UK because they love the easy and lazy way to get a foreign degree in UK and Australia.

Finally what happens? Working overtime for low pays, Being Butt of Racist Attacks,Poor financial Aid. All because you wanted to take the lazy and easy way out. Im sorry if I offended the sentiments of anyone.

Another Indian Student Killed: Burned to death
by Mahalingham Rajaratnam on Jan 06, 2010 03:38 PM

The body of a man identified as an Indian was found by the roadside in Northern Victoria on 29 December. Victorian Police have assigned a hindi speaking detective to the case. The victim has been identified as an Indian.

Thi is one in a series that have been carefully hidden for fear of explosion of the trugh about Indian bashing in a race related frenzy. It occurs everytime a new group becomes prominent in the place.

India ought to boycott Qantas, ask for boycotts of all Australians participating in the FIFA wolrd cup soccer and make sure they know how Indians feel at the commonwealth games in Delhi. Perhaps better they do not show up at all.

in these days of globalisation where knowlege is available on interne at asking, students need not go abroad even for master's degree. the government and or private sector has to open quality educational institutions at cost or or even on profitable business proposition equal to the best in world. the teachers can be paid more than industry standard. there is nothing wrong with that.

Good Riddance!!!
by Guest on Jun 16, 2009 11:41 AM  | Hide replies

If these attacks keep all prospective Indian students away from Australia then I say "Yayy! Brin it On!!!". These uncivilised idiots are a daily nightmare here, everywhere they go; be it trains, buses, shopping malls, etc. They 'students', who are essentially here to gain a "PR" are willing to lick the boots of anyone if that can get them some money. Cleaning toilets, malls, etc., with brooms and sponges are demeaning to any self-respecting Indian.

People who called themselves Indian first

People who called themselves Indian first - should take a bath from time to time abroad. They need to invest on a good soap. Smell of curry invites curry bashing.

Anyway, North India is the most racist place on earth.
I was called a dirty Tamils by a North Indian teacher once somewhwere up North where they shit on the road. He found out at the end of that year, I was a Tamil by my name when I gave him some essay, he wanted us to write.
Now, abroad studying, while drunk at night in some dodgy neighbourhods- and when I get myself into trouble - all I bloody say is that I FKing hate them more than you fking do mate. If people beats or spit on Indians, all I say- I don't give an F.

Good and bad people are everywhere. I have studied in south India and myself or my friends many times got bashed in our hostels just because we used to wear good clothes or had bikes.

stay away from Australia
by pentium processor on Jun 04, 2009 02:48 AM  | Hide replies

Anyone who says stuff like "Australia is safe, these are one off incidents", "There is no racism", are saying so because of either
1.They have been living there for sometime and bragged about it to their friends/relatives a lot - and now dont want to be seen as second class slaves in a foreign country.
2. They consider themselves to be so fortunate living arounds "Goras" that any mental/physical abuse they suffer is not reason enough
3. They want others to fall into the same trap that they are in themselves.
I have worked in Austrlia for quite some time and the fact today is that though it might look appealing initially, because of clean roads, shiny cars, better quality of life, but the oportunities in india have vastly improved. The responsibility levels and the quality of work you will get in India is much higher than what you would in Australia (or for that matter any developed nation), unless you are working on some high tech scientific research which aren't available in india. Additionally, if you consider the racism and daily abuse, constant living in fear, stunted career path, living away from parents/relatives, then the choice to relocate to a place like Australia is absolute stupidy

No doubts that India is a good place to be in from a growth perspective, but that doesn't justify your points 1,2,3... ;-)

Thanks for giving a true picture. I wanted to study in aus , but am reluctant now. Never imagined it would be that bad there, as Indians have been going there for more than a decade now. Shalini

Pot calling the kettle black

In India we have the evil caste system. Indians discrimate their own people. This discrimination is being going on for thousands of years. India needs to fix its own house first before lecturing Australia.

Kumar,

Have you considered emigrating to Australia? You may find it quite agreeable. But avoid people carrying sharpened screw-drivers, if you can.

Don't worry about it, worry about millions of Indians who live a life of discrimation, bias and oppression, all in the name of caste. The dreams and potential of these people are crushed since childhood, they have no hope of every getting a decent education or a decent life. Even the rich people in India live in misery, because the infrastructure is poor and there is no law and order.

Not isolated incidents
by Rivka Mishra on Jun 03, 2009 05:41 PM  | Hide replies

There seems to be a perception that these attacks on Indian students are isolated incidents.

However, a senior diplomat at the Indian High Commission in Canberra told Economic Times (30 March 2009) that in the last six months, there have been 500 cases of assault on Indian students, registered by the police authorities across Australia. Racism cannot be ruled out as a motive, but I am fully aware that it is a minority of Australians which probably have racist views.

However, I do feel that the Indian government is right to take up the issue with the Australians. That is the only way the Australian police will act to prevent these crimes from taking place.

i agree with you but also there are a lot of australians being attacked too by the minority group of scum that live here.we have had an increase in crime since this government has allowed illegal immigrants to remian and also these so called refugees from africa.the turer born australians are appalled at their actions as we know that india has always been an ally to australia.we are behind the indians for having the guts tio stand up and tell this iodt brumby and his government that enough is enough.we too are sick and tired of the bashings, rapes, stabbings and general lawlessness in victoria.believe me there was talk of vigilante groups being formed to take the streets back off the scum who roam it targeting people for assaults and robberies.we will do the damn job that this weak government and its police force cant do.you indian people if you feel you can overpower an assailant do it.you wont be condemned for protecting yourself,in fact you will be even more respected in this country.but at the same token dont overboard and start attacking aussies because they are aussies.target these scumbags and their little gangs and you will find that a lot of aussies will be behind you also.we too are very wary of where we go alone of a night time too.

Nothing strange in getting attacked
by hari narendran on Jun 03, 2009 04:28 PM  | Hide replies

To be in the streets at 1.30 midnight and getting attacked in Australia is nothing strange, in fact not only in Australia, in each and every part of the world including India, it is not safe to be alone during that time. It is quite obvious that the people who are in all sorts of illegal and mischevious activities, whether it is goondas, pickpocketers, or theifs, they would be there during that time and they will definitely target someone who is walking or travelling alone.

By writing this, am in no way supporting the act of the Australians who attacked the indian students, but is India a safe country in this regards? is mumbai, chennai, delhi or calcutta safe at midnight for someone to walk alone, leave the foreigners who come to india, even for Indians it is not safe to walk alone.

So i think this attacks has nothing to do with racism or anything of that sort. If they see someone who is a non-australian, they feel that person would have come there for studying or visit and surely will be having money for their expenses and they try to loot, that is all, but i dont think these attacks has something to do with the racist side.

Thank God, no news of an Indian female student got raped in Australian came up. But in our "democratic" country, swiss female who entered taxi was raped, tourists who comes to Kovalam beach in Kerala are being sexually assualted, so I feel Austrlia or anyother country is much better than India in terms of security, leave these 1 off incidents

The nearly 1,500 attacks on 'Indians' (may include Sri Lankans and Pakistanis) did not all happen at 1.30 a.m. at night. Most Indian students work part-time to make it easy on their parents. Only the late shifts are available to them.
The problem is: In all Western cultures some young men turn to violence 'for fun'. Hari Narendran, unless you have lived in the West, you may not know this.

The violence in Australia is similar to 'Paki bashing' in Britain in the 60s and 70s, when many 'Indians' were beaten up by gangs of british youth.

Have you seen such gangs roaming the streets of Indian cities carrying baseball bats, knives and drunk or drugged?
