but should we not arm local language authors with

the same electronic tools that are available to English counterparts?
Who needs writing in the age of Youtube?

And for that you dont need writers you need groups where writers can profitably make stories into animated films.

This is what computing can solve and with Infosys and CDAC and TCS, this can be the next big thing.

India has enough stories yet untold over the ages. Why not someone use those to make money and then use that money to fund translation?

All noble long term projects start with deep pockets made from commercial successes mostly based on someone else's work.

Quite a strong verifiable trend throughout the history of money and fame, if you observe carefully.

PRICES:VERNACULAR VS. ENGLISH TITLES
by damodaran mohan on Jul 28, 2009 05:15 PM

Please go to Nayee sadak in Delhi and just compare the prices of English and Hindi titles of leading writers.Books of Jaishankar Prasad, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar... and others are available for just around Rs 50/- only.On the other hand english titles , even the translations of original titles from Bangla, Hindi etc. are available for not less than Rs.200/-to Rs.300/-. It is shocking. It clearly reflects readership preferances.
