The champions of the religion of Brahminism should apologize to all Indians for making India an illeterate country by restricing education and knowledge from the masses. As a result India has become a third world country.

Why is the author repeating the word Brahmin so many times? She seems to be utterly caste conscious. Remember, we are all humans first irrespective of caste, color, religion and gender.

Oi moron Kumar - we are all humans, with the exception of YOU. You're just an animal parading as human.

Now, how many times do I need to tell you - go back to your cleaning duties at Sonia Gandhi's mansion. Madam does not like her brown skinned servants to be fooling around on computers during work hours. When she hands out caste quotas, she expects your complete obedience and surrender and gratitude to her. Don't disappoint her! Scoot!

Oi moron Kumar. You are a bigger racist (you seem to hate all brown skinned people, but adore and worship the white skins), casteist, a complete idiot and the perfect example of why education should NEVER be given to some people, since they only abuse such learning to badmouth everyone out of jealousy and spite.

Now go back to wiping Sonia Gandhi's toilet seat, and remember to warm it before she sits on it. Can't have her getting a cold ass, can we? Its not good for the nation.

It is said when a finger is pointed towards Sun fools and idiots see the finger and not the Sun. You are also of the same category. The article is about Pattammal and her talents as a singer and other life details. Naturally her caste background and its impact on her life has to be stated. And it is also true that Brahmins in those days were rigidly following caste bars which barred women to come out in public - either to sing or dance or act. Actually for many years or decades men used to don the female roles for this reason. Bellari Raghava was famous for his female roles. So it is the casteism coupled with stupidity of the readers that unfortunately attributes casteism to the author of this article.

There is a saying "Only a diamond can cut a diamond".Similarly, only a person who is an authority in music can spot another authority.

A.R.Rehman who is no doubt a good composer, does not have the caliber to judge others. He is by no means an authority, his awards notwithstanding.

By comparison, if you happen to listen to classical music, you will truly appreciate DKP. She was considered an authority in Dikshadar's kritis, but was very humble which is the hallmark of all great exponents of music.

The more you learn, the more you realise that you know very little about the subject !!

In contrast, I A.R.Rehman may be a good composer but he is still not the best in the business and is not an authority in any area of music !!

So, it would be silly on your part to draw comparisons between two individuals who lived in different eras and are exponents of different forms of music.

Please apply your thoughts before recklessly demeaning the achievements of others.By doing so, you have not only done great disservice to yourself but to carnatic classical music which has lost a great exponent and servant forever.

Moreover, you havent achieved even an iota of what she has achieved in her area of expertise. So, you cannot judge others simply because some X,Y or Z accepted or rejected her.

Lastly,if you consider what kind of music today's composers compose, it is crap. So,learn to differentiate between crap and gold before you post such comments !!

I am in total agree with what Sreeram says.Nr Krishna Reddy!!You should, first of all, know that Ar Rahman does not know any thing of music;he only copies the tracks from the west ,mixes them & brands them as his own. What he produces is NOT music but only a sound.Such a fellow is not to fit even to wink at Pattammal-not to to speak of giving a chance to the former. What a parady?Where is Pattammal & where does AR Raman stand?Unthinkable even!!Greatness of DKP is not diminished just because one so called music director of the present day did not give her a chance. It could,as well be considered that AR was unlucky to muster the grace of this "Gandharva Gaayani"with her melodious tone to his film/s.

First of all, what do you know about Carnatic music to comment on such a great musician?
Well Smt.DKP sang for ARR in her late 80's, in fact ARR was blessed to have her sing for his music.
Please do not post comments out of ignorance.

Pattamal's music eased the soul
by Pen diamond on Jul 17, 2009 03:39 PM

There used to be a soul easing music, If MS amma's music stirred the soul, Pattamal's music eased it.

The trinity is indeed gone. She was the last bastion of Indian female orthodox singing musicians.

May Pattamal and her music live long in the minds of listeners

Divine Music
by baba on Jul 17, 2009 03:31 PM

Ther was purity and divinity in the great singers of old times. Their voice had a connect with the voice og Lord - the omkara dhwani.
But today music is more sensous, materialistic and at base level.

Like a monkey cannnot apprecate the beauty of a garland, the page 3 cult and western values destroying our young generation cannot go to the depth and appreciate Indian classical music.
