Officially there are only 8 planets now. Pluto no longer qualifies as a planet.

Graha Meaning
by bravestar bravestar on Jul 07, 2009 03:52 PM

The Actual Meaning of Graha is not planet. It is a celestial body that influences life on earth.

This is for those who think that Nav graha means 9 planets.

Navagraha = 9 planets, known in india since times immemorial
by wizardo id on Jul 07, 2009 03:50 PM

isnt it a farce that people much before galileo are forgotten ? hindu scriptures mention the navagrahas much before galileo or someone else during the middle ages - the dawn of the western scientific age.

Well said, pooja. We often are interested in recognising west than looking into self, as to what, India had offered the world, much before somebody from west, would have ever thought of starting researching things like these.

Pooja....
by First Hindu on Jul 07, 2009 01:59 PM  | Hide replies

HINDUS have been doing Satya Narayan Pooja for almost past 2000 years. In that we worship all the planets with Lord Krishna placed at the center (depicting SUN).

This shows that PLANETS were discovered long time back in ancient HINDUSTAN before any of the westerners discovered them.

NOTE: There would be people who may have opposing views of this because of the word HINDU....but for them it is their own legacy & history as well. SO PLEASE FEEL PROUD about it.
