Luthra, it will be foolish for you to expect from most of the comments writers, who are BJP supporters, to even use basic courtesy for the Prime Minister of our country. They see people only as Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh and so on. If it was Atalji you woulkd have seen the response. It is sad that in our country we can not even wish speedy recovery to our PM without being laughed at.

Our new Bionic Man
by VijaySagar on Jan 22, 2009 09:32 AM

If only our elders were less power hungry, we could have educated smart looking 40ies something holding the top chair in India. Unfortunately, just like AB Vajpayee, we can see Manmohan clinging onto the chair to please his 'madame' even as parts of his body are replaced one by one for health reasons with metallic and other artificial parts. Anyway it doesnt matter for India even if we elect a 100
politician to our parliament, as no job gets done anyway.

they laugh at our jealousy
by Devdutt Nayak on Jan 22, 2009 08:57 AM  | Hide replies

The entire world, maybe save a few African "countries" takes pride in the achievements of their leading public figures. In India, we are smarter than everybody. We (different people in many cases) abuse Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Modi, MMS, PC, Narayana Murthy, Kapil Dev, Aamir Khan, SRK, Big B, basically anybody we get our hands on.
Such people are respected in their countries and so many often ask why some Indians always find problems with so-and-so person.
I think there's a lesson or two for everyone in this. MMS, with PC and MSA saved India's economy twice - the first time from the ominous debt-trap which eventually becomes a death trap for the economy. Everyone makes mistakes, but to behave like this is this ridiculous. People reading this board from outside India regularly feel surprised at how we have something or the other to complain about someone (I'm part of it on occasion ;-) )
We are supremely jealous people!

Finally The Sradarji Will Take Rest
by AmarAkbar Antony on Jan 22, 2009 07:57 AM

Finally the weakest person, ooooops, PM of India will be forced to take rest or rather will be eased out.

A typical case of a good person, an intellect who made a good start and finally got sold - lock, stock and barrel - to retain his chair.

Each time there was a terror attack, he would worry more about the fate of the terrorists rather than the common man on the streets.

Now let hem get operated by a Doctor who has obtained his qualification not by studies but due to reservation.

People fall from great heights. But this man seems to be getting deeper in muck. I hope the historians give a current account of him so that no more Manmohan Singhs are born to any mother in India.

Please, please!
by shiva on Jan 22, 2009 07:32 AM

Again sadly, many are abusive! Yes, things may not be want we aspire for but then why not take charge? It is one thing to be whiners but to show total disrespect is another matter, whoever is in charge!

Ours is a demo crazy! Obama came out of the blue! That is real passion & true spirit of a warrior! For us, the young are resigned, worse than back-seat drivers. Unhappy with dynasties? Create one. US has Kennedys, Clintons, Roosevelts & more. That did not prevent Obama coming out as a knight in shining armour! The ordinary Joe in US & even our aam aadmi has a spring in his walk now. It is possible for any of us! Obama's village in Kenya erupted in joy at the success of their own. But we are cynical. Going by the posting here, many will go bonkers if an Indian origin rides in that motorcade to White House.

The generation that got us independence was idealitic. Gandhiji moved the masses. But things did not pan out, but who is to blame? There are many in the pink of health with concealed passion, but happy to lay about! Then people like MMS, LKA, MK in TN, & even JB in WB has to hang on. No takers!

Obama has shown the way. No easy way than to take the plunge & get in the chin like when he faced fuming Hillary & McCain. No harm in taking a back seat & accept our inabilty, but let the system run its course. In life, there are no quick fix. US is filling up a big financial hole. For us, we have a bigger political one to fill in. A true test of character!
