D. Goel,Pkl. afternoon, 3pm, Friday, Dec.11, 2009, As an humble Indian i feel that i am in someway look a little better as one person of indian Origin now for decades working in the western World has achieved celebrety of of being a Nobel Laureate for his work on (Robosome multile Protein Molicules) having applications in therapies. Heartiest Congratulations D.Goel
His background in solid state physics and a switch over to Biology did it apart from his hard work and somewhat puritanical pursuit of science. Congratulations.
I am saddened by many comments in this forum which lacked dignity and having no willingness to enjoy this moment...people dragging community, language etc in this. This clearly describes what is prevailing in India today - Bickering.
It is not that Post-Independnet India has not produced greats: Prof G. N. Ramachandran is way ahead of many Noble Laureates but he did not receive the award. Same is the case with Prof E.C.G. Sudharshan. We cannot ignore greats like Prof. Jayant Narlikar, Dr. Ahoke Sen, and various unknown gems who go about doing their job without much noise, unless something like Nobel disturbs it. So the comment that post Indian society did not produce any great laureate is misplaced.
Talent is rarely nurtured in this country[Remember the events related to P.T. Usha?]; Big things can be achieved only by big thinking and big hearted. Our society should learn to recognize the importance of creative and intelligent people. While Ramanujan was born in this country, he was polished in UK. I ask my self a question frequently but I am not too sure: If there is a Ramanujan rtoday, can we polish him here in India itself?. My feeling is "not too sure". That is the saddest part.

If you look at how he went about doing his work, you will realize he spent decades on it without any complaints.
Those petty minds talking big against him are lazy nuts who don't want anyone else to point out how bad they are.
My profound congratulations to Mr. Ramakrishnan and thanks rediff for publishing the pictures. It will be wonderful to see the diploma copy also published here.
This is like once a century event and there are so many different views giving it a caste, national and political angle. Guyz, let this be the man's moment and celebrate for what he deserves.
India does not need lots of noble winner. It needs lot of youth leader who have commons sense and are willing to contribute whatever little he can. A doer not just talker. What india needs is lots of good road, footpath, hightech librarary, modern health care system. you dont have to invent all this. Just copy paste from waste. China is doing exactly the same. We need lots of training in india for masses, not education. China is ahead of us. They are using common sense and lots of determination to succeed at any cost. The team work is another lack in india. people want to be boss, not care about outcome of the team and be just a team member to serve. These are simple but lack everywhere in indian society thats why we have so much chaose everywhere.

Sure!!!! And they also produce Stalins and karunanidhis and the Annas who discriminate and create caste divisions among themselves. Have you ever been to TN recently? As a non-tamil and a non-Andhra I can say that some of the most hostile, sullen, bad-tempered people live in TN. For the sake of fairness to the Andhras, are there any people in India that dont fight with each other? And by the way, if you remove the Brahmins from TN, what culture and genius do you have left. And now, even the TamBrams have turned on themselves, on Hinduism, and on India. They, along with the Bengalis, are the new anti-nationals like you.
within few days indian govt will give him some honour...hahahahha..what a shame man..raskals is the only word i can use..my request to god is make the 2012 quake only in india..helpless
Genius, hard work and choice of the right place to work in. Why do Indian's do well abroad? It is not merely the facilities that are available there. The fact is that those in power make those facilities available because they admire genius. The societies in western countries have admired intellectual achievement even in the worst of the times. since the medieval times we, in India, have forgotten how to admire. Even in the worst times of political, social and religious upheavals Europeans, by and large, continued to produce works of genius in art, literature and science, because these were admired by the leaders of the societies in those countries. They have continued to do that. We must also not forget the fact that Indians in India won Nobel Prize during the British Raj, not thereafter. It speaks a lot about our democratically elected rulers. We must develop that trait to encourage Indians in India to produce great works of genius.

PalaniKumar that Surya Vamshi is one type of devil and you are another type of devil. You are so called Dravidian fanatic and he is a so called aryan fanatic. Both nitwits are trying to divide Tamil people on the basis of caste, relgion and an imaginded race line. Just get it into your stupid head that modern day Tamils are largely a mixture of Aryans , Dravidian and Australoids. Capice. We are all a mixture, toghether we all produced a unique Tamil culture. We Tamil Brahmins are as much Tamil as you are and have every right to any part of Tamil Nadu and Eelam as you do. All Tamisl irrespective of their origins and relgion shared a coomon heritage, history, language and cullture, that right fully belongs to every Tamil not just to you and your mad ilk. So stop making stupid comments.

Good joke palani, Dont you know how the african people was treated in USA. Dont you know how the tamilians are trested under british govt. Why dont you mention your real christian name instead of using the word palani. Since palani is the holy place of hindus, you are not suppose to use them.
Since i am also from TN, i know why you are crying like this...
I am not Brahmin. I really appre... them. Because, they are very intelligent.

All Tamil people are one. So what are Tamil Brahmins? Telugus Marathis. Kanndigas? No they are Tamils, that is why we are called Tamil Brahmins. We just a caste amongst numerous other Tamil castes. So dont try to divide Tamil people along caste lines. When A.Ra rahmian won the oscar the Tamil mualiars or Vellalars or the Tamil Muslims did not state. A Tamil Muslim or a Tamil Mudlaiar/Vellalar brought fame to India. You also proudly stated that he is a fellow Tamil So stop being stupid and casteist. It is because of people like you that we Tamil Brahmins face problems in Tamil Nadu.

When people like Karunanidhi,Veerapan,Jayalalitha,Prahbhakaran brings disgrace to India and Tamilians. We can see this as only a balancing act

Pirapkaran was not and Indian and he fought for his own people. He sacrificed his life and the lives of his wife and three children. He could have lived in luxury like the traitor Karuna but chose not to do it. He may have made mistakes in his judgement, but he was genuine and belived in his cause. That is why his people follwed hom irrespective of caste or religion. and stil respect him despite his many mistakes. Will any of your Indian leaders sacrifice their own lives or their families lives? The answer will be no. Look at the plight of the Eelam Tamils after the demise of the LTTE. It is ample proof of why he fought and the Eelam struggle took place. So dont comment before knowing the real history.

Dear Suraj, Why do you bring Christians in the picture. I'am an Indian Christian and proud to be an Indian. I grew up among Hindus and we always lived in peace and harmony, we celebrated our festivals together and enjoyed ourselves. We are Indian first our religion comes later. Please don't insult us as we have done a lot for the country in health and education. At what stage have we proved to be anti India. Please do not create another misunderstanding as we already have our hands full.
