Facts about telangana
by indianreview on Dec 08, 2009 01:18 AM

Ever a festering issue in Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana question assumed national significance after a three-decade hiatus since the Jai Telangana Movement in the wake of the 2004 electoral alliance between the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Sensing the widespread ignorance outside the State about the Telangana issue, M. Bharath Bhushan and N. Venugopal have sought to explain the rationale for the demand for separate Statehood in this collection of research articles on the region and literature from the area. Through these varied approaches, the attempt is to explain the reasons for the sense of alienation felt by the people of Telangana; traced in a 1969 vintage article by Duncan B. Forrester to the region being under Nizam’s rule for 200 years, cut away from the “rest of the Telugu country”.

Given that Telangana has become a major election issue in the State, the book examines whether polls foster separatism and uses government data to show how the region is lagging behind the coastal and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh to make out a case for a separate identity. Also thrown in are two short stories in translation — the delightful “Golla Ramavva” by former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and “Bhoomi” by the doyen of Telugu short stories, Allam Rajayya.

Telangana going to be just another state like Karnataka or Tamil nadu. Having more administrive units in India not necessarily hampers development. In reality it will be closer to people and government will be more in tune to peoples needs. Actully small states like Karnataka, Haryana growing better than larger state like UP or Bihar.

Why are you worried about security of your relatives? Its free country. Constitution guarantees thier safety. In future, if Telangana govt fails in their duty in protecting any of its population(including Andhrites), there will be presidents rule. I am sure you have relatives in Bombay, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi. Are you worried about them too. For eg: Bombay state split into Gujarat and Maharastra states. But none of Gujaratees(even though they don speak Marathi) had to leave Bombay or their well being is threatened. In this case, both Telanganites and Andhrites speak same language and they won't even have to deal with language issue(unlike Gujaratees in Bombay).

Go ahead and divide up
by xxx yyy on Dec 08, 2009 12:26 AM  | Hide replies

If the US, with 1/3rd the population of India has 50 states, then India should have 150 states as it has three times the population. Telangana should have Hyderabad as the capital. Andhra with either Vijayawada or Vizag. Rayalaseems with Tirupathi. And the new state of Bellary (the Reddy brothers should demand one) should also contain Anantapur and Raichur districts. That way we can satisfy all the politicians too. Once they divide it up, there will be nothing else to divide, unless they follow plan B which is to make every district a state.

There is a telugu provern - "Pulini choosi Nakka Vaatha pettukunnattu", "Nakkaku naagalokaniki vunna thEda"..
Why are you even drawing comparison between India and the US? US GDP 5 to 10 times that of India depending on how you dice it, per capita income is 20 times at least...I mean the comparison will be very painful..so let us just for now focus on India and Telangana.

Hello Police Officer,
This is all because of Andhra people only. Now, listen, in the year 1994 one of the state ranker in LAWSET from Karimnagar (Telangana) joined in Andhra University for LLB imaging of beautiful coastal area and quality education. But, all his dreams were evaporated once he entered into Hostel. Everybody started calling him “Nizam Kurrodu”. Nobody allowed him inside the hostel. Then he approached VC for justification. After One month he left the university as there is no change in the attitude of VC and Andhra students. He lost one academic year and he spent lot of money for his hotel bills for one complete month. So, “jaisa karo waisa baro”

So, my dear police officer stop writing against Telangana, at least scare about GOD, to whom we all will be answering for our mistakes one day.

In Telangana, people speak Hindi in villages. But in Andhra, peopled don't know Hindi even is cities. NTR has to learn Hindi from a tutor just before he started National front in 1989. Telangana is more cosmopolitan and welcomed all Indians though out history. But in case of Adnhrites they are acting like colonial rulers. Hence Telangana asking for self rule.
