Its ok if we are still not considered among the first world countries, we have a long way to go and with our hard work and intellect there are no doubts that World will look upto India as one of the most important country.

Cheers and keep working hard towards betterment of our country.

Work more - talk less

That is what the MMS govt. is doing and I think it is correct.
Many Indians feel frustrated that we are not treated as important by the US / Japan & EU.
However, instead of raising our global image, which would have happened with a charismatic Nehru - Gandhi descendant at the helm, MMS is focussing on slowly, agonizingly slowly, setting right India, systemically & structurally.

We have seen the pitfalls of being 'important' & impotent simultaneously, under the leadership of Panditji.

Far better to be unimportant and potent.

From a receiver of Aid to a Challenger for world power - India
by Argumentative Indian on Aug 31, 2009 07:28 PM  | Hide replies

Many of my generation are unaware of a phenomenon called PL480. This was some code for grain received from the US as Aid during one of the numerous droughts that hit India in the 1960s or 70s.
I understand this grain was of such poor quality that it was probably more suited to animal feed than human consumption.
And yesterday, I read in TOI (Swaminathan Iyer's article) that in those days India asked for / received so much global aid that someone wrote a bestseller advising that India should be starved of food aid, as it is an unviable nation and rather the food aid should be kept for other countries, who were more viable!

Well, when Hurricane Katrina hit the US, I understand that India contributed USD 5 Million to the international aid.

Its not a question of if the changed regime in Japan will see India as important or as another 'country', the question is till when can they afford to not say Hi to India - big time.

India - you've come a long way baby!

Hi Argumentative Indian,

Alongwith PL 480, the greatest (or Worst) contribution of US to India that was a deliberate and well planned conspiracy was the export of parthenium popularly known as "Congress grass" - firstly because it spreads the way congress spreads causing extensive damage to all who come in contact with it and secondly congress (INC) was responsible fot its import.

"Well, when Hurricane Katrina hit the US, I understand that India contributed USD 5 Million to the international aid. "
Where's the proof that India contributed 5 million dollars??? India pledged 5 million dollars but it only gave away 3000 blankets, tents and other items. When something disastrous happens in our country nothing is being done for the poor. This sort of brow beating must stop. India hasnt come a long way, it still has a long way to go.

Political burka
by Very Far on Aug 31, 2009 06:52 PM

This policy is in keeping with the US stance regarding important countries of the world. India is relegated to a second rate power but MMS and his boss are wearing a political burka and to bootlick the US.
