Allegedly hounded by a greedy and cruel wife, who was fully supported by her parents, a 32-year-old techie ended his life by consuming a full bottle of anti-depressant tablets here on Monday.
Shubhankar Katyayan was married to Nandini, 27, also a software engineer, for the past two years. Their marriage was registered and solemnised here. Although the two hailed from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, they had been working in Bangalore after their arranged marriage.
The couple had taken up a rented house at Rajajinagar. They worked for different multinational software companies. Before Shubhankar left for the United Kingdom on a company assignment early this year, he was happy to learn that Nandini was pregnant.
Soon thereafter, Nandini also left for an overseas assignment.
She returned to India a couple of months later and left for Jamshedpur to live with her parents. Shubhankar and Nandini were in touch over e-mail. But, differences cropped up when he failed to return to be at her side during delivery.
But, Shubhankar managed to take leave and returned to Jamshedpur to see his newly born son, Purunjay. Recounting the events prior to Shubhankar’s death, a close relative told Deccan Herald: “Soon after returning to Jamshedpur, Nandini and her parents began ill-treating him.” Shubhankar allegedly fell at their feet, begging to let him see his child.
Though later he was allowed to see their son, his in-laws convinced him to return to Bangalore on the assurance that Nand
Mr. Menon, why is your media silent when it comes to unconstitutional laws such as Dv act which give rights to women alone? The Dv act is silent on violence committed by women on men. How about addressing that?
No sensible person can ever support kicking of a daughter-in-law....the judges have not said that. They have clearly struck down the misuse of 498A by the daughter-in-law. Thereby, they have struck down the claim that she was kicked. The feminist media have twisted the judgement and are trying to build sympathy around women. which is unwarranted. Women are misusing the law and the court has snubbed the claim of kicking.....it has not justified kicking.

the 498A is most abused one. I am myself a victim of it. It should be takenout as it is doing no good to society.

I agree fully with you. The feminist media is twisting judgements to suit their feminist agenda.

Absolutely. The court did not say cruelty is ok against Women as is being portrayed. The court said there is no evidence of cruelty and the harassment charges are all after thoughts and suspicious of blackmail. Thats the reason it struck down the lower court order. Media, pls do not misuse and misinterpret the court rulings.
While the article is hilarious... PLEASE STOP misinterpreting and mauling facts.
Even NDTV proudly displayed "Kicking Daughter-in-law not cruelty". The author above has not researched the NEWS as well. Journalism has become a playground of misinterpreting facts and twisting the truth, as it suits the TRPs.
Now coming to the NEWS....SC has only said that "Kicking daughter-in-law not cruelty UNDER THE DOWRY's ACT."
"DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LAW" still is applicable in case Mother-in-law kicks her DAughter-in-law.
Dowry Laws are pretty strong...one complaint and the family is in...for good. That's why SC has removed certain sections which cannot be taken under the Dowry Act.
Earlier, if MIL kicks her DIL...for whatever reason...like the author mentioned....less salt in sambhar....she could just walk in to Police Station and put the Dowry Act....even if her MIL would not have demanded a squat. Now, if she does something like taht....if would be teh Domestic Violence Law that would be applicable.
Mr. Sadanand Menon...please research before you put up such things online!

That is exactly the point. It comes under the DV act and not dowry law. BTW, what if the daughter-in-law kicks the husband or the parents-in-law? Mind you, there are no laws to protect men and husbands. What about that?
