The author had written pure nonsense. His only aim is to somehow convey that the NSG waiver was obtained against tremendous odds.I wonder why should he try to create a yarn in this matter.Every one knows that India compromised on its position on nuke testing, by making an unilateral assertion into a multilateral, legally binding commitment. We have foregone sensitive technology and reprocessing rights.God only knows what other hitherto unrevealed compromises India had made.In the light of these, what is there to crow about in the NSG waiver?Strange, how indians can treat defeat as victory.

Good comment. Comment with content. But I too believe that the waiver was a herculean effort on Bush' part to c the deal thru.
China is not like what sreenivasan has described.China is our friend in need and friend indeed. They are going to help us when we need it..I personally admire Hu jintao's Administration and after their successful handling of Tibet riots my belief became more rigid that he can manage all those situations very well.Kudos to china india frienship

Hi, Tresspasser, it's the first time I heard the "eating meat of Indian soldiers" tale, do you have any source support your claim? It must be very brave for you to travel China after this blooding story.

Some of these diplomatic families, what they do is make good contacts in diplomatic circles, attend functions and ceremonies and sell out the interests of the country, especially who ever is posted outside, with foreighn assighnments.
Their main objective and effort there is to place their sons and daughters in good ofreghn companies,UN organisations or universities.
Sreeni, in this matter you were a great success. Both your sons are well placed abroad and you dont have to worry at all, can forget about foolish india.

i dont know about his personal life...but has he said anything wrong in this article?...
I find most Indians, even including our this UN member, are too well adept guess at others opinions instead of doing the real thing. I really really feel sad on it.
Has China ever openly opposed this deal? NO!
Remember China is a country of INDEPENDENT diplomacy. That means what China has done till now is no apology to India. Should we expect an openly and direct oppose from China then we get the happiness? Absolutely no.
Instead, Why dont we ask our government, how much cost we pay for the waiver of non-proliferation agreement?
Embargo ever, highest price, no updated technology, outdated reactors.. India will be remembered as the most foolish country in the history in this world to pay billions of dollars to US for US own selfish economy. Yet India itself remains poor, no any changes.
Since it's a must for us to utilize the nuclear, why dont we sign? Every country signs, why India doesnt sign? We need international respect!
Do not complain Chinese. Instead, I'm wondering why Rediff posts such absurd article whose view points are elementally based on guessing logics.
How come we develpe ourselves into a modern nation?

How can we develop ourselves into a modern nation when your own friend Karat spends half his lifetime opposing the wheels of development. There 25 years of rule in Bengal makes it look like a state stuck in the 50s, another 25 years and bengal will be taken further back to the 20s.

do u want the nation to keep shudderin in the name of china ?...
respect is not attained by being submissive...in fact no one is ever going to use the nukes...but it's a psychological game and is necessary...and we need to give the chinese a piece of mind as they have always taken india for granted...
Rulers of Indian motherland please beware of chinese, thats what least we can say now. Any household is quiet and happy until its neighbour is. We have enough on our plate (naxalism, J&K). Our foreign ministry has to understand being amere spectator would not be good in this trying times. Or else be ready to face the chinese wrath and power which any day is too strong for any south east or central asain country. The best thing which can happen to our country in these ecomonically difficult times is to promote industries for indigeneous products, invest more into scence, R&D rather than speculation. Our services (IT, BPO) sector has a tough time atleast till end of 2010. This is the right time to move towards harnessing indegenoeus products and skill base..Hope for Good political will..Brain drain is drying us..cheers

Does congress and UPA have the guts to arm twist the terrorists in INdia? If they can do that then only they can think of handling china.
An excellent article. Very well argued, and well written as well. Rediff should make an effort to get this published all over in the Indian print media. That would be in national interest.
