In those days in middle class vegetarian houses kids are fed boiled Tuvar dal mixed with rice and Ghee with some steamed veges and then yoghurt. This meal is very healthy. Now adays kids eat lot of processed foods like Maggi noodles and they refuse to eat healthy.Parents are at fault because they feed what is convenient instead of taking the pains to inculcate good eating habits.
... as the recently constituted one to "protect" older citizens. I have not gone into the nuances, but it seems that the law requires children to take care of their parents. And even grandchildren are not spared - the onus of looking after grandparents can also fall on them!!! There is no appeal process - if one is found guilty by the tribunal, one has to be either imprisoned or slapped with a fine of up to Rs. 10 lakhs (or both).
Now, tell me, in a society which produces children by the millions and at the same time do not even give them proper nutrition in their most important growing years, isn't it downright obscene to expect these same malnourished individuals (and THEIR children also) to care of the very same elderly who were responsible for not providing for them in the first place? It is the duty of those who made children to bring them up properly. A malnourished generation certainly cannot be expected to take care of the aged when their own survival is threatened by chronic diseases and low productivity caused by childhood malnutrition.
But then, when it comes to law, where can one find logic? God help the future generations of India ...
Indian food habits which is tasty but not healthy. Food is overcooked or fried till it becomes carbon with lot of powder masala. To me hamburger and chips is more nutritional compared to bhel puri, paani puri and batata wada etc. We indian seldom use soup. In case, we make soup then it is not soup but curry. No salads, no frequent fruits etc. Check the rest of the world who takes soup and big plate of Salad and we call ourselves vegetarian.

Not all dishes are over cooked in india. Are most of the sabjis we we eat in our homes fried?? Indian food is one of the most nutricious. But half the population is anaemeic due to poverty, eating less leafy vegtables etc which was consumed by our earleir generations a lot but very less in this generation. And eating fried food causes obesity and heart diseases, which is found a lot in the west

Some green veges like Karela and Bindis are fried too much . All we are left with is the fiber. Best way to use vegetables is to make Thari wala sabji which does not take too much oil or frying.

You are absolutely right. We have some inherent good recipes like Dal and sprouted salads. I is not very expensive to eat nutritionally. When it comes to vegetables lot of people seem to eat only potatoes. South India has some good less oil items like Koottu and Avial which have steamed vegetables and Yoghurt and boiled dal. The best vege diet will be rice/chapati with north INdian style Dal/Sambar(made with lots of vege and dal) or Koottu/Avial with salad or vege Raita.
I think one big major reason for iron and zinc deficinecy in india is switching of our dietary pattern from jaggery to sugar. In the days of our earlier generations , poor people used jaggery instead of sugar which has a lot of iron zinc.Hence they could survive even if they couldnt afford green leafy begtables. But now due to changed food habits, poor in our country have switched over to sugar as a sweetner which has nothing but empty calories

All the vegetarinas who read this----try to eat green leafy vegatables atleast thrice a week to get the required iron :-) Cos according to the article above even 40% of wealthy indians are anaemic. So you might be anaemic without you knowing it. And iron deficiency like iodine deficinecy causes a decrease in IQ levels.

This question has shown how stupid u are. sugar doesnt deplete iron. iron should come from outside the body( from food) which sugar doesnt give jaggery gives. when body isnt getting enough iron from food it becomes deficient in iron leading to anaamia. And behave in a mature way, dont abuse people about small issues
