Global warming is Myth, Climate Change is Fact
by Animesh Naskar on May 09, 2008 06:52 PM  | Hide replies

Global warming is absurd. Earth by its thermal property neither gains energy nor looses. However, climate change is reality. Places which used to be cold are getting warmer. Similarly places which were earlier hot are now becoming cooler. Though many ppl do not do that, but one should verify the facts from statistics.
Climate change is a continuous process, but currently the rate of change is too fast and this is alarming. Pollution is the cause of rapid climate change as it is imbalancing the delicate balance of ocean currents as well as natural vegetation which play important role in environment. Some species extinct, but some new species do come. However, we are not sure that newcommers role in nature is similar to those who leave. Hence it is a cause of concern.

yes, surely mankind species will become extinct and we will have just the animals and birds who will withstand the fury of Mother Nature for some more extra time and finally no soul will exist to talk of global warming and fighting cyclones and hurricanes.. just wait and watch the fun, finally there will not be any discussion board person to respond or reply .. that is the real fun and no IPL games and noone to watch the cheerleaders !!! great show will come if you just go on fighting the nature of Mother Nature with our artificial nature ...

What you say is absurd. Wake upto reality. Read this

and see the movie Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. Then you will understand. If you still dont understand then you are pretending so.

a new day will surely come when you cannot sow the paddy and wheat in our fields which would have been filled up with plastics and junks created by mankind .. and you will have to eat the plastics for your lunch and dinner , then one will know the value of playing with nature and calling people who are trying to bring attention to reality ... then they will have the real last laugh...

looks like your message is written from an AC cabin, that is why, so much cool it come through... people are walking miles to get even a pot of drinkable water and here we are talking of taking for granted Nature... each point comes for debate in the public is just meant to focus and evoke a discussion and come out with constructive suggestions .... think of the cola drink issue regarding fertiliser content which was focussed by Ms Narain which brought a ragin debat on this consumption of colas by many age agroups and its side effects and an awareness amongst people who just took it for granting and gulping it in kilolitres in place of plain simple cheap drinking water !!!!

yes sure nothing is new to this world, but we very well know how much of plastic is being generated (which is surely new) and which never goes out of circulation and clogs many drains and garbage bins and dumps in the urban India ... Mother Nature has its cycle of happening but She also knows where to start putting extra discipline warnings , just be known that the frequency intensity are going up surely with more nature-destroying activities of mankind ..

Better let us not personalise and arrive at judgements on the issues under debate ! regarding corruption, giver and taker are both in partnership,, why name callling here, there is no AC cabin here or around our location.. we are also from the rock bottom where we feel the pulse of the people across the network of our Great Mother India, ;; what is being conveyed is instead of sensationalising response, let us deliberate, create and spread awareness and see that is noticeable change in the things ahead -- that is what the need of the present hour.. surely it is critical times for our Mother Earth and Mother Nature who have been witnessing real suffering in the hands of the fellow citizens on this Planet.... If we say everything is bad, then where do we restart or begin a refreshed chapter ... you missed out the vision of Swami Vivekananda .. many of his messages to the Youth of India for their own selfish good so that incoming environment is friendly to their own comfort, are they not good to be publicised more ???
think it over .. just a small point but needs deliberation surely in a larger canvas

Playing with Nature - price to be paid
by mohandas pai on May 09, 2008 06:41 PM  | Hide replies

We have been taking Mother Nature too much for granted with all our whims and fancies - whether it is developed or developing or underdeveloping - there is not much of a difference in the 'playing with Nature' games - but how long the Mother can be accepting everything hurting on her - somewhere She starts her disciplining tools to regulate her children - that is where we see the fury of nature making us aware and atleast come out of our slumberous sleep - to respond to how much we are destructing the natural environment - really our fellow citizens in Myanmar had the effects of the Nature's fury . Let us wish and pray that let us not push the Mother (on the eve of Mothers' Day) to her Wall to use her tougher tools on the citizens of our Mother Earth. as both Mothers - Earth and Nature are really caring, warm and affectionate foster-Mothers for all of us on this Planet. Let all of us really do and contribute each one's whatever small share be, to this cause of stopping the Global Warming levels, today it is Myanmar, tomorrow it will be even India, and not too far, we had seen hurricanes affecting the American cities. Let us not make it more and more tough for our Mothers - Nature and EArth !!! Jai Hind !!!

SN on Climate Change
by Alok Kapoor on May 09, 2008 06:36 PM  | Hide replies

This is not scientific. Where is the statistical analysis of past cyclones. The last devastating cyclone in Bangladesh was in 1991. Since then there have been cyclones which have caused substantial damage but I have been hearing of such cyclones since I was a child and there was no talk of Climate change then. It is fashionable to blame climate change for everything. And people will knowledgeably quote Sunita Narain and "I saw it on the Internet" and this will become the Goebblian truth. She may be right but statistical correlation is necessary.

there are three kinds of lies- lies, bigger lies and statistics - this is told by some eminent thinker ... and you are going to stand on statistics .,... will have to sit and sleep on the pillars of statistics and also float around like meditating yogic flying ./...

what is not scientific? the day the same Nargis or some other beautifully named cyclone taps and rings your door bell, then you will be in your computer table calculating the statistics and by the time you would be floating into the cyclone centre point and waving your statistics,, it will be real jugglery of statistics

global warming
by Marlene Menezes on May 09, 2008 06:36 PM  | Hide replies

People talk about global warming but these very people want ACs etc for their comfort.
Like in our society just yesterday huge trees were cut because the leaves when they fall were a nuiscance to the swimming pool of the neighbouring society. I tried to make a complaint to the muncipality but was told that permission was taken to trim (which in reality was cut completely leaving just one branch) the trees. This is the state of our country.

good idea, go on cutting one tree on each road in each city and plant 2 as you say and when will the 2 come up ?? there has to be some rational to cut also .. if not, the rate of cutting will bypass the normal levels oneday you will see only kid-plants on all roades and wait and wait for the shade to come ./... then the fun starts ....

individuals can do a WHOLE lot of things rather than waiting for nations to react. Minimizing power usage (LED lights for e.g), saying no to A/c, growing tress/ plants in our neighborhood, saying no to plastic, etc. are easily do-able. We fight so much in these blogs. The north-south divide is a shame on educated masses like us. Instead of wasting time on these, can't we water a plant? Can't we carry a cloth bag when we go for shopping and say not to plastic carry bags? I think all it requires is a simple mindset. Critics reading this post will question me what qualification I have to recommend. Well, I have a lovely garden, I plant tree saplings in my locality, I dont use A/C at home, I use only LED lights in my house and my heart cries for nature.

wonderful point - hats off to Shri Siva Kumar,, this is the real spirit of discussion in this Forum,, may all of us pickup the thread from your suggestions... surely it is contributing each one a small percent which makes the final 100% ... the last percent of 100% cannot be made unless the group contributes and each has to and there is limited choice left ...
