Indians, in particular north Indians and caste Hindus in the south - can be the most racist, abusive and patriarchal people in the world. They DO refer to black people as "monkeys" - and write abusive posts like "shut your mouth" if you point it out. I know because many an Indian in America has struck up a conversation with me and with a wink and a nod - one Indian to another - spewed racist venom against black people. I feared for my own life when I dated a black man. This murderer had a PhD! He wasn't a taxi driver or a newspaper vendor. The educated ones tend to act all slick and liberal on the surface but inside - its the same racist hatred. Look at how they treat Dalits! Now we know that they can also kill people for racist reasons in America! They usually turn into compliant little puppies in the white man's land - but imagine they have the right to kill blacks in those lands. I hope the US justice system dispenses justice at least this time - so many hate crimes have been ignored. I have always been against the death penalty but my distress and anger at the murder of Sparkle makes me hope Chiman Rai is put to death. He was probably a supporter of the death penalty anyway.
RIP Sparkle - some of us care and want you to get justice.
Indians in America are super racists. Blacks are referred to as "Monkeys" and "Kallus". America is a melting pot where people of different colors blend. Obviosly Indians continue to have the desi mentality of killing their "bahus". This is not India Mr. Rai. You will got to jail for 30 years.

Johnny - I wish you were right. But Indian Muslims, Pakistanis and South Asian Christians are just as racist as Hindus. Its a South Asian thing. I have heard enough first hand conversations and read enough newspaper articles to know this.

It is so heartening to see an Indian acknowledging that this is true, instead of getting defensive and abusive about it. We have NO moral grounds to accuse anybody else of being racist towards us if we ourselves are so racist. And look how cunningly this professor managed it! Sparkle's mother says he seemed to approve of the wedding - but we know that was a sham! Act liberal on the outside - get people killed in reality!
