The French are just uncomfortable with any religion other than christianity and any culture that does not encourage nudity.

Yes. Its kind of permanent fixture. But its optional. These days you can find many pagadiless Sardars called as Mona Sardars. Jagjit Singh (the ghazal singer) is one example.

Fight till the End

After all the pagri is also sacred to Hindus also. In haryana, rajasthan and many other places many ppl wear turbuns. Remember the scene in Munna Bhai MBBS in which munna's mother pleads with him saying "This is the first time your father has gone outside the house without wearing a pagri" . I am sure those wear pagris or those whose parents/grandparents used to wear pagri regularly will be with the Sikhs. Wearing turbuns is a very Indian tradition. Most of the Indians wear turbun only on their wedding day, the day on which they want to dress traditionally !! So i say its a shame on all those indians who make fun of the turbuns and there are many of them , believe me.

Pagri, is not only a Sikhs symbol, it is worn by Sikhs,Hindus,Muslims,Christians and many others.
It is a status symbol.
Any thing worn on the head is classed as a crown of that person.
(In Africa the Africans actually call a Pagari KALAIMBA which means a crown.)
It does not matter who wears it or in what style it is worn it should be respected. so should be a hat regardless of who is wearing it.

Pagri has its place and its good to keep it at its place. You cannot impose your norms and compulsions in someone else's house.

Ok, so we should take religious lesson from a religious person like Swami Vivekananda. It was Swamiji who brought Hinduism to the western world and it was because of him that Indians started to feel pride in Hinduism again. And do u know that Swamiji also wore a turban when he addressed the Americans in Chicago. Would u have recommended that Swamiji was made to remove his turban before going on the podium!! No way. So why this apathy towards the Sikhs!!? In all the pictures/portraits of Swamiji he is shown wearing a turban only !! From Swami Vivekanand to C V Raman many great Indians have proudly worn turbans. Wearing a pagri is a matter of pride and no Indian should be made to let go off his pride.

Dear Sikh brothers, good luck in the fight.
We are with you.

It is difficult to wage a fight against local laws in another country, but best of luck.

Not much wrong with the two sides here. One side voicing for there identity, the other side wants just one uniform code. Definitly you cannot resolve by fighting guns, but both sides got to understand each other and come to a workable solution. French govt has to understand that even if make everyone look alike still people will be remain differnt with aspect to their thoughts, and faith which is most important. A dead lock is not what is needed in politics.

you are allowed to practice your religion anywhere in the world. France is part of Europe and cannot violate religious freedom
