Cross-voting
by hrushikesh acharya on Jul 25, 2008 09:11 AM

We, the people of India, try to send the most suitable person to represent us in the Parliament. They are supposed to act in such a way as to reflect this trust from the voters, and act with conscience for the good of the people and the country. NOW we see the drama in the recent trust vote, and realise that we made a mistake in reposing such trust in them. These MPs are now seen as nothing more than rubber stamps, while voting for crucial issues before the nations. They cannot exercise their mind and right thinking, for the good of the country. They are being forced and coerced to vote in a manner defined by the party, and not as per their conscience. This betrays the trust we placed in them. Hence all this type of democracy is only a farce, whem the MPs cannot exercise their free choice. It is therefore high time that this form of democracy or party rule is changed, and replaced with some sane arrangement.

Omar Abdullah and Owaisis - Real Show Stoppers in Parliament
by jamsheed abumohammed on Jul 24, 2008 10:56 AM  | Hide replies

The highlight of the second's debate certainly belonged to two young Muslim MPs,who with their power packed tinged with patriotic flavour won the heart and soul of Muslim Ummah in the country with UPA benches clapping continuously. It was Owasis of MIM from Hydrabad, who enlivened the proceedings with a dig at the Left, who claimed to champion the cause of Muslims, but in its own state of WB, it granted 2% concenssions to the 29% Muslim population. He had his own reservations against the deal due to its impact on the foreign policy but emphatically said that the Muslims fully supported it in the national interest. He had a dig at BSP and Left combine as to why they dragged the name of Muslims to the deal unnecessarily. He thanked UPA for granting 1500 cr for Muslims. Omar Abdullah then stole the show with his remarks that he was a Muslim and Indian and saw no difference between the two. Abdullah said he was ashamed to have associated with NDA and felt his conscience would never forgive him for not resigning in the height of Gujarat riots where Muslims were butchered. He supported the motion of UPA for it was beneficial to the country and wanted to consolidate secular forces. He will never associate with NDA, a communal outfit responsible for demolition of Babri Masjid and riots in Gujarat,a shameful act.To a thunderous applause he assured that not a single Amarnath yatri would be hurt as long as Muslims are there in Kashmir. He was fighting for his land and not against yatris.

Dear Jamsheed
UPA guys will clap their hands for anyone who will vote for them, leave alone muslims...

and the leaders you quoted were no bigger than regional muslim leaders, who take care of & think about muslim interests.

Omar mentions about riots in gujarat. how about kashmir wherein scores of hindus have been driven out / killed?

His heart does not burn for them is it? Or may be his conscience does forgive him for that!

They support Cong bcoz it gives them facilities over majority.
Omar says they will not harm the yatris but will not provide any facilities for them. What a love for the yatris!!!
And these UPA fools will support them, just bcoz they get their votes.
But for the money & positions UPA would not have been able to score this win.

And, even if its not BJP in the next election, surely Mayawati will root out the Cong, though will BJPs help...Watch out.

BJP Slams UPA - Its a case of
by jamsheed basha abumohammed on Jul 24, 2008 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

Parliament recently witnessed some unprecedented episodes etched deep in the memory of he people. It witnessed a bizarre situation when 3 BJP MPs shamelessly brandishing wades of currency notes in full public glare of the cameras beaming out messages all over the world, purported to have been given as a bribe by Amar Singh to cross vote much to ; It also witnessed cross voting and absentention by BJP, Sena, BJD and SAD MPs openly defying the party dikta. It was infact a slap on the face of these parties for their projected stand against the popular Nuke deal. It showed that the parties which were cadre-based supposed to be well-knit well-disciplined failed to hold their own flock till the voting. This shows the MPs have come of the age, did exactly what they felt right much to the delight of the UPA and misery of their respective party. BJP expelled followed by others. But what is the use of locking the stable after the horse was stolen. BJP, Sen and others would never recover from the shock of desertion, absentention, defection by its own flock. Now that the UPA has won the vote of confidence,it can move ahead with the deal as the majority favoured it.The real show was stolen by two young Muslim MPs one was Abaduddin Owasis fo MIM and Omar Abdullah of NC.Both these young MPs won the heart and soul of the entire Muslim community of India with their power packed speech in the Parliament. The frankness with which they spoke took everyone by surprise compared to past docile MPs.

We all know who are those MPs. Your memory must not be so short to forget about one BJP MP who indulged in human trafficking. Lot of hue and cry were raised by all parties on that matter, and BJP expelled the concerned MP promptly and disowned him. Now the very same MP has been bribed by UPA to vote for them and they are talking about political morality! Can you justfy Man Mohan seeking help from this MP who was indulged in human trafficking and other three or four MPs who have come straight away from Tihar jail to cast vote in favour of UPA. What governance this opportunitist group can give to country is anybody's guess. It is an open fact that Sibu Soren was bribed by earlier congress PM PV Narasimha Rao in similar situation to win the trust vote. He has been accused of murder of his PA. This very man is going to be a Minister very soon. Pappu Yadav, Shahubuddin all will get their due share. The very police offiers who handcuffed them will have salute them shortly. But MMS and people like you are happy that the government survived. That is more important than anything else. Is not it?

BJP slams UPA, expels 8 rebel MPs
by INDER KRISHEN WALI on Jul 24, 2008 01:49 AM  | Hide replies

The CPI or the BJP or the CONGRESS or any other Party for that matter have their very existence, nomenclature and are able to function only because the Constitution of India has allowed and recognized their identity and status. Their own Constitution is not above the Constitution of India. Therefore while serving the Nation the Constitution of India stands first for any true Citizen of India, and then the respective parties of India and their Constitutions. As per rule on the floor of the Parliament each and every Member of the Parliament has a right to express himself as per his conscience. No M.P. is supposed to function as a BONDED LABOR of any Party. As per Constitution to practice Bonded labor is illegal. Moreover Freedom of expression is the Fundamental right of Every Citizen. The party high command may issue a whip but if they punish any M.P. for following his/her conscience then The ECI should act and ask for an explanation call from the respective parties. The WHIP is like a Fatwa issued by derogatory extremists and fundamentalists in illiterate and undeveloped Muslim Countries. Then what is the difference between the functioning of parties in a Constitutional Democracy and the fundamentalist groups. The very purpose of a Democracy and maintenance of the Institution of Parliament in a Democratic country gets defeated, the moment the M.P.s are punished for following their conscience. ...(Contd.)

Mr. Wali,

You do not understand the whole thing. The consitutual experts who brought in the anti-defection law are not laymen. Anyone who joins a political party must first understand the programme and policies of that party. Only after convincijng yourself you should joint that party and once you join, you are bound to act according to the stand taken by that party. For example, the N-deal issue must have been discussed in detail by the bJP/TDP etc in their party forum and then they decided a court of action to be followed in the house. The decision is taken when majority of the elcted members agree to the stand. If few members disagree, the matter will be further discussed with them and explained to them in detail and after that they have to toe the official line. If they disagree they can leave the party, resign from the membership of the house and seek a fresh mandate. Please give vote to the condidates based on their party affiliation and not on their individual capacity barring few exceptional cases. So once you are in a party you have to follow the diktat of the party. It is not slavery or bonded labour, but it is called DISCIPLINE, which many of us lack.

All for the similar episode of Bofors. Nobody convicted for that. As such now it is going to be Nuclear deal where in it is a matter of a single party involving much much larger sum and nobody can ask for the fairness of price. Even though it is well known, at what price they will produce power and market it. Therefore it is worth taking the risk of being the corruption and bribery king also to have a fair share of the loot.

BJP leadership lacks the brain. They should take brain tonic or massage. Nuclear deal was a national issue and BJP should have supported it in a bipartison way and take politics out from Congress to take a credit Instead they thought by aligning with CPI-CPM they could topple government for early election. NDA tried to get same deal from U.S. but were unsuccessful. I salute the courage of those eight M.P.s who acted on their own conscience. SOUR GRAPES FOR BJP LEADERSHIP.

No party is safe from corruption. People have short memory, they will forget these 8 MPs in comming loksabha. Or even if they got defeated in this loksabha, they will come in one after next.
Today MPs always tries to jump on winning side. Today its BJPs MP tommorow it will be congress MP.

In general, people dont' hate corruption any more. People think they would have done the same thing if they would be in that position.

Plus nobody is afraid of law from Peon to PM.

I heard a nurse demanded money from a poor mother in maternity department of govt run hospital to identify her baby.
Now a days everything is on sale. Guy whether in private or public sector always tries to cash his position.
Casting couch is also kind of corruption in Bollywood.

This whole corruption is reflection of our society. MP and MLA are one of us only difference is, they are smartest of us.

Hope they learn something
by Sincere Citizen on Jul 23, 2008 09:01 PM

One thing they have to learn from this is never take corrupt people into party who can be bought by money.

Congress has lots of money because they are probably funded by huge black money from immoral people, they will always win on money and bribe power the only way to counter them is have impeccable people in your party who do good work.
