Have You Ever Sat for the NDA Exam, to call it a an exam for college drop outs, you should know what you are talking about. I am anot a member of the army, but I hope soemone from the army would read this and take up a public interest Litigation against this Idiot who dares use such words for a senes of courage he dares not display to a three year old child. @Krishna Reddy, People like you are the biggest curse to India. Engg pass out applying for NDA..you moron there is a age limit to get admission into NDA. Nevertheless, he is brave soldier of our country we are proud of him and his family.
es guys capt harshan made the supreme sacrifice for his motherland.... now his mother will go to delhi and receive an Ashok Chakra,for which harshan's family will be getting a princely sum of Rupees 250(YES U READ IT RIGHT, 250.00)per month !!! and from tom everyone else will forget that there was sum1 called harshan ever. and one more thing,harshan's family will be awarded a petrol pump (that's the govt policy to weigh the supreme sacrifice a soldier makes with monetary benefits).....and then for the rest of their life, this young officer's parents will keep running around various govt and police offices, being asked for bribe and the SHARE for this money-making petrol pump... the best thing is that harshan wasnt married, otherwise his wife would have been asked to vacate the govt accommodation withing THREE months....thats the truth... and not to forget,the grand pension hsi family will get on his behalf.... 7500 rupees per month!!!! thats coz pension is half the pay... and at seven year service,harshan's pay would have been close to 16000.... thats wat the country gives... it gives peanuts to d soldiers and asks for their blood in return... no wonder people have stopped joining armed forces... after all, a soldier cannot feed love for country to his son na instead of milk!!!and schools ask a soldier's son also 3000 rs/month..... arent we ashamed of ourselves???do we deserve such great men like harshan and their sacrifices????

and that must be the reason why this year only 140 cadets have joined NDA instead of the normal 300... and the state of IMA is much worse.... can u believe,out of a vacancy of 250,in the last batch, only 155 aspirants could clear the SSB, and out of that only 84 joined!!!! its not that armed forces have made SSB difficult,the levels are still the same..its just that the required IQ level guys are opting for engineering/medical/mba or even call centres rather than facing the hardships of armed forces....and the only people who are coming for SSB are simply not upto the mark, coz an officer in armed forces is a very responsible job, and it requires a lot of "officer like qualities". courage, motivation, common sense,and an in built disciplined mind.... finally the armed forces will have to lower the standards thus resulting in guys having mindset of BABUs coming in armed forces instead of tigers like harshan... wat can we do for that?????

its correct that a soldier joins the armed forces for the love for his country... but then once he has a family,he realises that for everything that he is doing and ready to do for his country,he is not getting proper returns... he is not even able to take proper care of his wife,children and old parents... first of all, he is never with them most of the time to solve their problems,..... and then,he cannot even give them enough money... add to this the pathetic treatment they get from police, politicians and even general public.... and then of course the tough service conditions.... now u tell me,how many people can remain motivated in such circumstances??? and by the way, the world has become so materialistic that a general person can just praise the armed forces in a forum like rediff.. he will never join it... and half of those who join armed forces,after realising their so-called MISTAKE (because of the conditions i just enumerated)wants to leave the forces... so that is the reason behind the mass exodus of personnel from armed forces as well as a fall in the no. of aspirants as well as the quality of persons appearing for the SSBs....

Dear Sumit, Iwas in the same location and had the proud priviledge of having served with Capt Harshan. Its a great personal loss to me. Its said that irrespective of the outcome a soldier always looses. Inspite of the result we perform even beyond the call of our duty to ensure safe living to our country men so that they can live in peace. We do not do this for any medal or pecunary benefits. While giving 250 Rs. cheque per month I hope some day some defence minister or prime minister gets to sign those cheques so that they can decide on reducing this very HUGE money pay out.
It is better we do not vote for such people and there should be some change in constitution which allows a law to come into force if 70% of the population votes for it so that this level of indignity to the class of people like soldiers can be reduced.

Thanks rediff for this article...when in the materialistic world people are just trying to be more and more selfish...its a brave heart like Harshan who makes one feel that theres more to life than just money and fame....today when the youths in indian cities rarely talk about a career in Army or defence and look for only lucrative jobs in Softwares and other firms , thats when we have to respect a person like capt. Harshan more...he has placed country before self ...and what we gona do is remember him for one day ie 26th Jan and then fight among each other for a bit of money and fame ...which will waste the sacrifice of our real heros like Capt Harshan

It is sad that brave people like Harshan die everyday. No amount of compensation by govt can every make up for what his parents have lost. A medium like Rediff should have a facility where some of us can contribute online towards "Brave Hero of India Fund".
I salute you shaid Capt. Harshan. The govt must full support his family. we as indians should not forget such brave souls who give their lives for the safety of our nation. jai hind
