Its angle of sun rays coming to earth's surface which dominate over factor of earth-sun distance in deciding temperature. When it is winter in north hemisphere at the same time its summer in southern hemispher of earth.

hello super success.. in that case, the Peak of Himalayas is comparatively near to the sun always, then how come ice formation happens there throughout?

Mr. Chankaya, Difference between earth's surface and Himalya's peak is only around 9kms. This is negligibly small when campared to earth-sun distance. So this does not make any measurable difference in temperature of himalya's peak and earth's surface. Now here the dominating factor is absorption of sun rays in the earth's atmosphere, which is more near surface than at peaks (it has its own theory ). Thats why peaks are always colder than maidans at same place. Temperature is decided by many other factors also, thats why diffent places at same elevation have diffent temperature for example consider city and forest OR garden and building area. And Mr. Yo HO India is in northern hemisphere not in southern.

This is because earth is tilting at some angle from it's axis and at this time of year Northen Hemisphere is away from sun for most of the time and doesn't get much solar energy. On the other hand Southern Hemisphere is facing the sun and we are having time of our life (in hot weather here) due this closeness with Sun... :-)
What is the big news here? The earth being at the nearest point to the sun or the meteor shower? As far as the earth being the nearest position is concerned, it is not a big news, it happens on this same day every year. Is rediff running out of stories?

Have you made it a point to criticise everything? This is a nice piece of information, helps us get rid of bit of ignorance. What story you want to hear? Someone dyig or being killed? or about Nukes or something? Get some life mate...
