Text of the IPS Association's letter to the Prime Minister
by videh kumar on Apr 14, 2008 05:02 PM

An eye opener and highly revealing text. Kudos to the Association for the bold step. Police does require much higher motivation and better treatment than now. They deal with matters have direct bearing on democracy in our country. One can find many failures in their actions and sometimes public may be unhappy due to various acts of ommission and commission but their contribution in maintaining the rule of law has been salutary. The degree of success may vary from place to place and from time to time depending on our democratic govt. of the day. Their role becomes all the more important and arduous due the disparities in India w.r.t. skewed earning, caste society, religions, regionalism, languages, technological advances of criminals and so on. Success achieved by police officials like IPS is no less than our civil services like IAS. In fact poor performances of other services may be leading to higher challanges for IPS as demand on their efforts go up. Police has much higher and arduous service edge and they have been crying for reforms only to deliver better to the expectation of public, it is unthinkable that there appear to be deliberate attempt to demoralise such important organ of law enforcing agency. Its impact may be seen in down graded enforcement, increased failure of democratic process and flight of talented and motivated ones. Such flight is recognised in army. Policemen may not resign but bright ones will avoid it as they would be joining an humiliated force.
