Stop this Trade

If authorities are not acting to stop this activites to stop, it will become an evil in our society. Otherwise the danger is that, most of our college going gals will become surrogate mothers to mint quick money. This hunger for money at early ages will devast our social setup, that we were proud one time. This evil has to ended in minutes from now. I dont want to see unmarried mothers more. Central Government of India should act immediate. Money can be made with lot of otherways. Even more money can be gained with other business than renting womb.

Asha, how is this going to be an evil? A surrogate mother carries the baby in her womb for 9 months. you think a college girl will do this for money? How will this increase the number of unmarried mothers?

Asha... I honestly pray that this doesnot happen to you or actually anyone in the world, but what if you are not able to bear children and yes adoption is an option that is always open, but if surrogate is an option, dont you think you would consider that to have a child who is genetically like you and your husband?

Its pathetic. In India those who have money only can talk about "our culture, social set up" and other such impotent philosophies.
What do you think,if our college going girls become surrogate mothers, can hide the fact from their families? You are making baseless charges against young generation of India.
And also probably you have not seen what poverty is otherwise insted of feeling shocked and concerned for "our heartless culture"which is nothing but a protective wall created by hypocrats like you, your heart would have filled with compassion and sympathy for poor sonia.
why is a poor always has to protect the humbag things like Culture, dharam etc and the rich will enjoy by flouting all the social and morale rules?

surrogate motherhood is nothing but outsourcing the womb. especially since there is money involved, and there's poor people ready to rent out their womb. its not social service, its professional.

"Infertility is a global problem and we have its global solution," says Dr Patel. "This is not outsourcing. The issue is not even about black skin or white skin. Everyone's blood is red. There should not be any qualms about it."

The payment is very little. Its 1/10th to what a woman in west would have charged.

And what if a woman dies during the delivery of child. NOTHING. Its not help, its exploitation. Its outsourcing of womb.

good point, if a poor lady dies during delivery, the payment involved will be very very less. we should tackle infertility. most of it is caused by pollution.

The payment to an engineer working in india is also 1/10th of the payment to an engineer working in USA, does it mean that all engineers in india are exploited???

Exploitation of another kind
by Rajesh on Nov 02, 2007 01:27 PM  | Hide replies

The sum paid to the surrogate mother is vey little. Its about a 1/10th of what a woman in west would have charged.

Its outsourcing which should not be encouraged. What if the surrogate woman dies during child birth. Any insurance?? certainly her family would be paid nothing for not producing the desired result.

I am net against the practice or earning money, but there must be some checks and transperancy. Certain maesures and laws are necessary. The value of life in india is really very poor.

why? what if you die while in employment? you are renting out ur mind, body and time to your employer, and she is renting out her womb. whats the difference. obviously if she does this 10 times, noone will come to her for the 11th one cuz her womb would probably just wear out. similarly, if u work for 10 years continuously and burn out, noone will come to u for work. simple

happy???
by krishna tripathi on Nov 02, 2007 01:24 PM  | Hide replies

It is written "The woman feels happy that she is able to give happiness to a lonely couple," she told this correspondent. Rubbish. How can a woman feel "happy" after letting out her own baby which she carried for 9 months. She should be feeling "guilty". and if she feels happy after giving (or selling) away her baby she is not worthy to be called a woman.

RE:happy???

The woman is only carrying the baby in her womb. The sperm & egg are from the couple. so how could you say it is the womans baby. Shes gonna get paid for the job she is doing & she is doing it with her own will. so I dont see a problem with arguing if it is right or wrong.

Its not her baby.. its the couples baby.. she is just carrying it for 9 months..sometimes a womans uterus is not strong enough to carry a baby and so it gets aborted.. for such women surrogate moters is like a boon..

i agree. There is a huge emotional cost involved. It must be really heart breaking to nurture an infant - feel it in your body and then letting it go, but it's like so many other heart-breakingthings in life. That's life.

adopting a child is better option, since childbirth is often complicated and there certainly is a risk to the mother. its definitely not like blood donation.

If couples are so desperate for a child, then they have another honourable choice and that is adoption. Oprah should use her influence in promoting adoption.

future!!!
by krishna tripathi on Nov 02, 2007 01:12 PM  | Hide replies

It is not "woman helping a woman". It's a business. Going by Dr. Patel's arguments (i.e. "One woman who comes to me needs a child," she continues, "and another woman needs money. A woman is helping a woman. What's wrong?"...) one man need sexual pleasure and one woman needs money what's wrong? So prostitution is better. Disagree on that? Why? Because here a woman is helping a man?
Further...what if the mother in future claims right on the child? No one can deny the custody legally if she is determined to take the child back. Further who will marry the woman who has done this surrogate mother nonsense. For a mere 25000, the unmarried woman will remain so for life. At least no "good" man will marry her. By the way can Dr. Patel marry off her son to a woman who has been a surrogate mother?
