BY, B.J.Mathew/ UAE.

It is sad to see a very charismatic politician stepping down from being the Prime Minister.Blairs tenure as prime Minister will be etched in the history as it brought a big geo political change in international politics, Be it 9/11 or overthrowing addam and reshaping Iraq , joining the EU etc. The current generation has been lucky to see so much of changes.
Tony Blair might be taunted and teased as the poodle of Uncle Sam , but remember folks , it requires tremendous courage to take bold decisions which would create history. Blair has indeed passed his test as a responsible leader in trh eongoing tradition of british politics. His actions will be widely criticised by many sections of the media and public alike ,but it has done more good than bad to India as a whole .
1)He supported Bush in his war on terror and in return rouge states like Pakistan could be contained , which resulted in slowing down of the terrorism in Kashmir.
Today Kashmir is a better place to live compared to a few yrs before .
2)More Indians found better job options in UK .
3)More Britis Jobs were transfered to India in his tenure .

We Indians have a tendency to criticise every one and everything thats happening around us . Most people who writes comment here has not even stepped out of their back yards of their home but they think they are best suited to give their valuable opinions. Being an Indian who has lived outside for the last 10 yrs in gulf and couple of visits to UK myself , i can see and feel the difference .
UK has alwayes given a warm welcome to Indians from all walks of life. India and Indians hold a special place in the minds and hearts of the British. I am proud to say that having spend some months in uk , i can never recall a bad incident of racial abuse or not even a stare from my fello british citizen . Britain has been a a melting pot of all cultures.
Mr. Blair we all will certainly miss you and the legacy u leave as u r stepping down .

Dear Mr. Mathew,
Blair had to resign as he was rejected by his own countrymen. Please remember after 9/11, Bush decided to attack Afghanistan with the help of the UK. They were supported by the entire world; at that time both Blair and Bush were riding on a moral highway. As they got the support of the world, they wanted to capitalise on it further to satisfy their greed of getting cheap oil and attacked Iraq to defuse the non-existaent WMD's and bluffing the world that Saddam was in collusion with Al Qaida. As a result, terrorism have spread further and sadly Iraq has become a hotbed of terrorism, which it was not before the attack. If they really wanted to wipe out terrorism, they should have attacked Pakistan and not Iraq. On the contrary, they were helping the terrorists to fight Russians and to bleed India till our economy started getting stronger. Today they have no option but to support India. Presence and absence of Bush and Blair has no cosequence in this regard. Today their additional worry is China and to contain China to some extent, they have to support us. But attacking Iraq for few more dollars, was a graet blunder and this has made the world much more unsafe. In the UK, Blair has paid for his blunder and lie and same fate is awaiting the Republicans in the US.
Regards
S.P.Mitra

Dear Mr. Mitra
Indeed there was fierce opposition from the public in response to sending troops and fighting another war in iraq . This shows the maturity of the peopl eof britain or usa or any civilised democratic republic , where peoples rights are not suppressed by autocratic rulers or dictators like Saddam . We should thank the leaders who carved the independence of our country in creating a democratic india where we can express our views freely with out fear of our lives .
Every body has the right to live a happy and healthy life .
The incidents that took place after 9/11 and subsequent ouster of saddam the dictator , many people lost their lives and people are still dying , but we should foresee a iraq where people enjoy freedom and not oppression and tyranny . Iraq is passing thru a phase where a big change is awaiting them at the end of the tunnel . Even We went thru a phase similar to what Iraqis are going thru . And look what happend to us , we became a free country , with a right to choose our leaders .
Iraq under saddam was not peaceful either . People were terrorised and killed to keep law and order . Nobody could stop saddam or his sons. They vandalised the countries wealth and made them richer and richer . waged war with neighbours , masaccared thousands of kurds . the whole middleast region was going thru turmoil. It had to stop one day or the other . I repeat once again , people all over the world have the basic right to enjoy freedom no matter they live in india or uk or us or afganistan or iraq.
Every thing has a price to pay . peace has and will only be achieved unless the tyrents are taken out. Peace can only be achieved thru a lil violence . History stands witness to so many changes which happend after a war .
so In this process there will be some collateral damge.
The people brewing terrorism in iraq are not iraqis . they are outsiders who dosent want this change to happen in iraq. Iraqis have gone thru hell and only a strong popular leadership can bring abt a change there .Lets support the people fighting there for the freedom of iraqis .
And in this process if they take some oil , its justified . It will cover their war expense . eh?
Regards ,
BJ Mathew

To be in politics in any country is tough and to be in Indian politics requires double rhino skin.

We have all sort of problems multiplied daily. To put it simply it is a thankless job. Moreover, you have zero privacy. We also shamelessly advocate one policy while in power and then oppose it when voted out. Ther is just no common agenda. The old politicians seem to revel in it. It is likely to remain that way for some more time.

Blair's legacy.
by Apoorv Misra on May 10, 2007 05:29 PM

After such a promising start, it hurts to see Tony Blair almost being pushed out of office.
I think he made things worse for himself, by setting out such a long drawn out withdrawal plan spanning more than a year. I guess the damage could have been limited if his resignation was a quick surgical operation.

In India we have ppl like Kalyug ka Arjun who can not even get up from Chair, wants to fight for social(?) justice. Ramadoos whose sole job is to fight AIIMS Venugopal.

We now have PSLV. I would request ISRO to send these both guys alongwith Laloo, Rabri, Mulayam, Mayawati, Shahabuddin, taslimiddin, Kroornidhi, Ego-amma, the fumble harmer, Jyoti Basu, Mamata Banerji, Vp singh, Mufti Sayeed etc. all sent to space in one single flight which never returns back here !

naga - UK cannot survive without Indians and India.many UK establishments are in India doing well and Indians are serving their country (ofcourse in the midst of racism) like slaves..

If he has as good a person as you refer, then he should not have joined Bus in attacking Iraq and killing civilians with a faulty reason...

Mr Brahmin ,
You seem to forget one thing : unless Bush-Blair combine had attacked Iraq and Afghanisthan our Kashmir would have already seceded and joined Pakistan because the murderous thugs of Al Qaida and their ilk would have made a beeline for Kashmir for their mission of murder and mayhem. This bloody killing spree in which Muslims have also been fellow Muslims should gain in momentum and continue as long as possible so that we can breathe easily . Do not get swayed by utopian ideas like secularism and anti-imperialism like the anti-national communists . See and feel the ground reality around you and your country.

Dear Brahman,
What I have put on record is fairly simple and plain. An educated man like you should have no problem understanding . Since you have reacted I would only request you to spare some time , read it carefully and ponder. To revert to the core issue , what I meant to say is that India is surrounded on two sides by two inimical Islamic countries-Bangldesh is also Islamic by constitutional declaration-and both these countries have made a state policy of harming India . The spurt in Islamic fundamentalism and mushrooming of terror outifits , fed by peto-dollar, like Al Qaida, Jaish and Lashkar over the past two decades have already created massive trouble for India . At a time when the Al Qaida and its fraternal organisations including veterans of Afghanisthan's insurgency against Soviet occupation were planning to turn the heat on Kashmir to have it released from 'Darul Harv'-that is 'land of infidels or India-the trouble in Afghanisthan and Iraq helped to divert them to the new war zones . This is what I really meant to say . Of course , you are free to differ with me-all thinking men are . But I have honestly stated my conviction.

It seems you have forgotten that it was UK & US, who had been supporting terrorism tacitly thhrogh their friend Pakistan and ISI to bleed India for many many years. But inspite of the active support of these super powers, Kashmir has been with us. By attacking Iraq, they have blundered and that has helped terrorism to expand manyfolds and the world has become much more unsafe. It has now started destabilising Pakistan itself and that is great danger for us and Bush and Blair are responsible for the same. Blair has paid the price and the Republicans will have o pay the same price during next elections.
