Whats the point?
by Sam on Apr 01, 2007 03:35 AM  | Hide replies

The pakis might have captured some india fishermen and may be torturing them as we speak. Bangladesh may be shooting at the BSF as we speak. Sri Lanka may have shot some Indian fishermen too. What has GOI done about this? Nothing? Still busy forcing the quotas down our throat and playing Gandhi's fiddle.

I think this appointment proves very effectively the pluralism of Indian democracy (unlike other powerful countries which merely claim to be so).

Having a Catholic leader of ruling national party, a Sikh PM, Muslims as President and as the Chairman of the Upper House, and a Dalit as Chief Justice and now a Parsi as a Air Force Chief surely suggests that the Indian Republic has really come of age and has matured beyond ethno-racial loyalties, within a very short span of time (60 years after Independence). It also suggests that Indian society has matured enough to accept difference and diversity, to be proud of it, and not merely tolerate it.

This is something to be proud of for it is unlike other immigrant societies like the US (also UK, France, Australia) which cannot boast of any non white, non male , non Christian or non native born as its President, or head of its House of Representatives, or even as the President of some of some of its most prestigious universities, even after being around for over 200 years as a nation state, (the appointment of Polish born Gen Shalikashvili was an exception, not the rule).

Overall, a great moment of pride for India.

RE:no HINDU???

Hi Ashish: I donot think ACM Fali Homis Major's elevation as Air Chief Commander should be viewed from a narrow angle! We are a secular country and every citizen has equal rights. The needs is to crush the pseudo-secularists and casteists like Congress Party, Laloos, Mulayams and Mayawatis who in the grab of freedom and secularism are poisonong our polity. If we insist for a non-secular polity ( for example Hindu nation), we will be equally vulnrable as Pakistan and Bangladesh are because they have strived to create a 'pure' land for themselves (based upon their Islamic vision) and as everyone has seen in last 60 years, they have gone from bad to worse in this efort. The need of the hour is to stop appeasing minorities because in a secular country like ours, there is no place for categorizing people as majority and minority on the basis of religion. It is a matter of disgrace that a secular country has not a uniform civil code for its citizens, instead it governs its citizends based upon personal civil laws: this is a major flaw.

Be an Example
by saathiya on Mar 31, 2007 11:07 PM

Hi,

IN the present scenario we are loosing faith in everything. Let me stree specifically on the point. Starting from Tehelka expose of Jaya Jaitley and Bangaru Laxman, coffin scam involving Ex Defence Minister, fake encounters at Siachin,Vandalising of our soldiers in trains...etc, etc.
Before people loose the hope in the only, disciplined, existing establishment of our country that is our Armed forces, let ther be more faith building measures. Let it be an Example for all other organisations.

Congratulations on becoming the Air-chief Marshall. I am surprised nobody still has any comments in the discussion boards in this regard.

These are men who serve the country and do much more and it would be an honor for each one of us to write about these people.

but some of us only have time to write million plus message on SriSri's visit to US

someday we will all wake up and focus on what is important to the common man.

Than you sir for the timely reminder. These air warriors in blues are our real heroes, not the bumbling fools in blues who mint money by hawking wares, while a whole nation wastes its time and resources watching their worthless willows.
