america is a meritocracy
by Mikkey Moouse on Jun 21, 2007 09:50 PM  | Hide replies

anyone with merit will always succeed in america, there is no need to pull strings, pay a bribe, know a minister or have an uncle in an powerful position.

america is top in education (70% world top universities), business (300 largest corporations), science (270 nobel prizes in science), sports (2400 olympic medals)......because MERIT is given the greatest importance.

all with merit are welcome in america.

Yes. But!
Depends on what you define as merit. qualifications, hardwork and intelligence are not important. You should be able to brag about yourselves confidently, show off. That counts more than anything else mostly. (This is a general observation and not refering to Mr. Raj or anyone else)

Above all, they don't promote sub-standard or medocore or less meirotorius people, by having reservations based on castes/community, etc. Indian ails because of this main problem. That is why people say India is walking like an elephant. If we dont promote/encourage less meritorious people in all walks of life, then we may be faster and people may say India progresses at the speed of a cheetah. Ofcourse there is no problem, if we have reservations based on economic criteria for meritorious people.

With best wishes,
Srinivasan.
